Who would you pick for London Mayor?
Ken Livingston is causing massive congestion digging up Londons roads.
Apart from that, it has just emerged he has 3 "secret" children apart from the 2 non-secret children he has with his current partner.
Ken Livingston says that the 3- or it may be six, his maths isn't too good- secret children he has had by two or five other women are not secret, just no one knows about them.
He says he is a responsible father, he may even have paid maintenance. Once. He thinks he may have seen one of them in the last 5 years.
Meanwhile Boris Johnson admits to snorting coke & smoking grass, has had numerous affairs and made borderline racial remarks he now regrets
The Lib Dem guy when he was a police boss turned Brixton into a drug dealers paradise.
Which would you choose? |

Boris is funnier than Ken, but I'm not sure I would want him as mayor.
I certainly wouldn't want the "Everybody just get stoned" Lib Dem guy running things.
Or Ken.

Well I don't live in London so I won't be voting anyway, would not know who to vote for if I did live there, probably wouldn't bother. |

Don't fancy the others either!
Certainly wouldn't go for the Greens, who have some facist tendencies, the BNP are a defenite no no for me- I'd even vote for Boris or Ken if it was between BNP & one of them
As for the Left List. Never heard of them. They're no doubt bleeting on about Palestine!
Yesterday I walked past a CND stall. The CND are supposed to campaign against nuclear weapons.
But at this stall, all the posters were like "Demand that Israel Leaves Palestine!" and "Hands off Iran!"
They also seemed to be supporting Irans "right" to nuclear weapons. an odd stance for a "peace" group & an "anti-nuclear" group |

Under cover of darkness over the weekend, Israel set off charges and dislodged itself from the Middle East. American warships then towed the new island to ninety miles off the coast of New York where it was anchored down. A spokesman said that this radical move would bring peace to the region, and promised US aid to Palestine. |

Briant, I'm afraid that wouldn't bring peace to the region!
The Feud between Hamas & Fatah would continue & intensify & there would likely be a regional war between the Syrian-Iranian axis (& their proxies) on the one side, & Jordan, Egypt & most of the other arab countries on the other. |

If you were to sumarise in three words what each of the candidates represented, what would it be?
I'll try this
Brian Paddick- Drug dealers friend
Ken Livingston-Digging Up Roads
Boris Johnson-Funny rich Man
Any other offers? |

I'm not sure why NewsNight needs to devote a full show to the mayoral election. Cant they do a local show for the London area only, as I'm sure nobody else is much interested. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

There's not much any of us who live outside the confines of the M25 can do about it, but, since we all pay a portion of our taxes to the Greater London council by way of government subsidy and since it could provide an indication of the way the wind is blowing for both main parties as thoughts inevitably wander towards the next general election, which could still be two years away, I suppose the Beeb thought it was of sufficient national interest. English national interest, anyway.
I think it's going to be a close run thing but suspect that Ken will hold on, and, if they really wanted to beat him, the Conservatives may wish that they had chosen a candidate who was slightly more serious in the public's perception (don't ask me who - talent is thin on the ground). However I think their choice of Boris was made more than partly in the hope that he wouldn't win, because, with the Olympics on the horizon, the cost of them and everything else that Ken has splashed out on, and the mess that the traffic and transport system is in (not to mention the Congestion Charge, or whatever today's wacky, PC phrase for it is) the position could well be a poisoned chalice. _________________ Ron |

I read today that Young Liberal Democrats in Islington were giving away reefers to be used in hash joints outside a sixth form colledge to kids as young as 16.
They were supporting Brian Paddick, the "Drug Dealers Friend", in his bid to become london Mayor

Personally, I don't give a holy flying fornication as to who of the botox ridden scrubber and the black racist bigot wins the right to lose the US presidential election, but I'm still subjected to the primaries on all the TV news programmes. At least the London Mayoral elections give an indication of current political trends in the UK.
It seems the whole of England wishes to get their snouts into the Olympic cash trough but resents the fact that it will be the London Olympics, not the English Olympics - and Londoners didn't bitch about the huge funding that went to the Manchester and Edinburgh Commonwealth Games.
I now live in the provinces and am happy to have left the Metropolis behind, but I'm up to my tits with the little Englanders in their parochial paradises moaning about London. It's a city - a major city - what happens there reflects the world. _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |

Are you having us on? Everyone I've spoken to was hoping France would win the Olympic bid (and I include myself in that). The 'Olympic cash trough' will take from a greater area than it will give back to.
If it's the 'London Olympics' then only London should pay. People will pay from a much greater area than London - or England (you may have left the City behind, but it seems you've taken a litle of the insular attitude along with you) _________________ ~~~ Niblet ~~~

I can't see we will have a Tory Mayor? Boris would be a good fun Mayor? Brian Paddock could be good, but not many people know him.. I guess I would vote for Ken as he's at least got things moving in London. I would feel safe voting for him.. |

Last night whilst watching Question Time from Canary Wharf I was struck by the fact that whenever an achievement of Ken Livingstone's was mentioned it nearly brought the house down.
At that point I thought KL might be home and dry today. Now I'm not too sure.

He is good at packing audiences but not much else. The same with Any Questions tonight. By the sound of them you would think it was 1997.

I particularly liked the part where Polly Toynbee was bleating on about how we must all be prepared to cut back, economise, face facts about global warming etc and an angry Richard Littlejohn interrupted her asking " do you think about global warming as you jet off to your villa in Italy?"
She was not amused... magic. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
