Always remember TwoWway Family Favourites with Michael Aspel and a lady who's name escapes me.
Always reminds me of Sundays in the 60's/70's.
BFPO Cologne and all that.
Nice memories too. |

Did Desmond Carrington's "All Time Greats" replace Family Favourites in 1981? Sarah Kennedy (yuk) was also a presenter of FF for a while. |

I can go right back to Jean Metcalfe's time in the 50s and can still smell the meat and two veg cooking if I ever hear its signature tune, With a Song in My Heart!

Jean Metcalfe and Bill Crozier.. Prior to that, (on the Light Programme) it was Jean and Cliff Michelmore, and they eventually married. Sadly, Jean passed away a few years ago.

It was always on at home and similar memories for me.
Ian Fenner was one of the names I remember at the Cologne end.
The Billy Cotton Band Show came on afterwards.

We used to listen to that on a Sunday while having lunch and then it was Round the Horne and The Navy Lark ... I think! It seems so long ago. Was that before Radio 2 started and when it was The Light Programme? _________________ Friends may come and friends may go, but enemies tend to accumulate. |

I seem to remember the Clitheroe Kid being on around the same time?

I can remember all of those as well and wonder if they did series of say 10 weeks each?
Or maybe they came on after the Billy Cotton Band Show?

I think you're right HM. I also recall later on Sunday afternoon a programme with Charlie Chester and then Sing Something Simple .... but I could be wrong! _________________ Friends may come and friends may go, but enemies tend to accumulate. |

I can also remember Movie Go Round, well the theme tune which was the Carousel Waltz! It was on in the afternoon and my Mum always listened. I can't remember Charlie Chester but I know he was on Radio 2 much later.

Just had a look at the programmes during parts of 1966-67.
I think you were right Helen, and they must have changed around a bit. In the main (the schedules I found) had Family Favourites, followed by Navy Lark, then Clitheroe Kid, then Semprini Serenades. Movie Go round, Billy Cotton, Frankie Howerd, and Sing Something Simple all featured aswell. _________________ SEX IS NOT THE ANSWER!

Thanks for that. I suppose as a child you just remember them as being there all the time and not in a cycle as it must have been.

Whooooooo.....
Losing myself in lots of nostagia now!
Clitheroe made 17 series between 1958 & 72 they all seem to be between 10-26 episodes long.
As for Billy Cotton, he seems to have been on loads at the weekends, but lots of the time Saturday lunchtime (probably why you have the every week memory), then sometimes Sunday afternoon, and sometimes Sunday evening. AND on the telly Saturday night!!!
During my perusal I saw a Radio Times from 1965, Saturday telly began around 12.45 (lunchtime) and was finished before 11.15pm! _________________ SEX IS NOT THE ANSWER!

My memory of Sundays in the 60s is that Billy Cotton usually followed Family Favourites at 1.30, then at 2.00 there was an hour of comedy - two of Navy Lark, Clitheroe Kid, Al Read, Ken Dodd, Round The Horne, then at 3.00 Movie-Go-Round, at 4.00 Semprini, at 5.00 Pick of the Pops and after that Sing Something Simple.
The movies and Top 20 changed weekly but everything else was always pretty much the same year-in, year-out! _________________ Ron |
