This was favourite all time show on Radio 2.
I used to love the 3 hour version and the fantastic Wall of Sound. segment that featured. I was disappointed when they cut the show back to 2 hours and devastated when the show was wound up completely. Who did they replace Richard with Chris Evans-I immediately stopped listening. |

And Neil Young's Like a Hurricane. The only one I didn't like, indeed had to switch off, was Laurie Anderson's O Superman. Was that the first 'Douglas disaster' decision? |

What do middle aged guys in their mid to late 40's listen to now to get reassurance that they are not completely past it yet? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

There seemed to be a lot of off-beat records that proved quite popular back then - Anderson's "O Superman" (eight minutes out of a four-and-a-half hour long piece, apparently), "Kissing With Confidence" (Carly Simon vocals but by 'Will Powers') and one I quite liked for some unfathomable reason, the Tom Tom Club's "Wordy Rappinghood". _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Of all the Radio 2 shows this is probably the one I miss most. It was just perfect on a Saturday afternoon. My kids were younger then and Saturdays would be spent doing household chores while they played, with RA on in the background - the wall of sound etc.
As I recall it was all change at Euston when Lesley Douglas brought in Chris Evans and shows started to get shunted around to make way for him and it was downhill from there as far as I'm concerned. |

That was when the rot really started to set in for me as well. There was an improvement when Stuart Maconie got a saturday afternoon show for a while. Though I really miss his old Critical List album show. The one that used to be on saturday evenings. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Me too. The day it was announced that Evans was joining the station was the day my interest in listening started to wane. And it's continued on the downhill slope ever since. |

Can I add my name to this, a bit late in the day but don't often get the time to browse around the whole site. |

Me as well, it was perfect listening either in summer in the garden or in winter cosily indoors.
