I thought it was a very good interview and demonstrates that Brand is a very clever person who is one step ahead of many others - even Paxman had to defer to him. It certainly made a change from the pre-programmed, PR conscious grey-suits that are normally interviewed on the programme, and well worth the airtime. The only problem for me was that it didn't last long enough. |

Yes I thorougly enjoyed the interview. I remember first encountering Brand on Big Brother's Big Mouth or whatever that side-show was called, maybe 4 years ago or more, and I recognised his comic brilliance and intellect then, he was on a different level to any of his guests or audience.
I was very angry over the Sachsgate incident, and with previous editions of Russell's show that I had heard (parts of) and thought his show unsuitable for R2. For Sachsgate, my anger was aimed at primarily Lesley Douglas and Jonathan Ross. I had listened to the Sachs episode/show and I believe Russell's version of events as he explained them to Paxman. _________________ -

In my view neither Ross or Brand should ever be allowed on the BBC again and had I been Jeremy Paxman I would have refused to conduct the interview
I notice Brand was also on Steve Wright's show one day last week which really sums up why I have become disenchanted with the show
Too many guests like him who should be banished from the airwaves until such time as they learn some respect for other people
The only place I want to hear Ross or Brand is on Radio Afghanistan |

Sorry but I think the guy is a total tw*t - and I don't mean twit. Can't see or hear a single, redeeming quality about him. Sorry John but if his appearances on Big Brother's Big Mouth constitute 'comic genius' then clearly there's something wrong with my sense of humour. Cringemaking, toecurlingly bad TV and about as funny as pulling teeth.
I couldn't really care less about Sachsgate other than in regard to any distress it caused Andrew Sachs himself - but there were two fools involved not one. |

From what I could see it was Paxman who actually wanted to do the interview and who jumped at the chance of doing it. It is certainly one that he enjoyed doing. When they discussed matters of faith, Paxman was visibly surprised at Brand's revelation that he believes in god and upholds christianity as the basis for his philosophies. I have to say he argued the point very well.
He also explained the "Sachsgate" affair very lucidly - pointing out that people can believe the Nigel Dacre / Daily Mail account of events or they could listen to his own explanation.
I'd very much welcome more interviews like this on Newsnight; it certainly beats the usual line-up of stuffy politicians who never stray from the party line or paranoid corporate heads mindful of nothing more than the share price.
In my opinion, the Paxman / Brand interview was a breath of fresh air on Newsnight - and a very insightful one, too. |

I agree Colin..really enjoyed it and so did Jeremy by the look of it.....he seemed to warm to Russell as the interview progressed.....I can see them being best mates after this.... |

A lengthier version is available on the BBC website, apparently. I'll check it out later. |
