You know I’m not the sort of person to complain, in that, if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all kind of way, and you also know that I like the TCEBS. However: I’ve had just about all I can take of the constant plugging of the One Show on TCEBS. The One Show doesn’t feature in my life- never has-never will but by the sound of it, CE is trying to join the two shows together with common threads and features, asking TCEBS audience to contact the One Show about this or that and going on and on about who and what is going to be on the One Show. Is it just one show now, with a radio element in the morning and a TV element in the evening or has TCEBS just become a long advert with music breaks, for the One Show? |

I just don't understand why they had to do this .....I've said before I only dip in and out of The One Show occasionally but I liked Adrian and Christine together ....it never made sense to me... |

Sense and the BBC. This is the organisation which has just spent two days and £100,000 of our money in legal costs to try to preserve the secret identity of The Stig - a racing driver so well known that I've just had to look up the news report again for his name. More about The One Show this morning. Flying kites on Hampstead Heath and pensioners' hairy chests - riveting stuff. I know - he's saving us the bother of watching - so it is public service radio after all _________________ Ron

Isn’t ironic that we are talking about The One Show (TOS) on a thread about TCEBS, I guess we could make it just like TCEBS BY TYPING EVERYTING about TOS WITH THE CAPS LOCK ON!
I suspect that TOS people think that TCEBS listeners will follow Chris to TOS in the hope that the TOS ratings will improve: maybe some of them will but equally, TCEBS listeners who aren’t interested in TOS are just as likely to turn to another breakfast show which won’t be full of TOS. |

Back to Chris Evans and The One Show...
The One Show is never going to get any more than its present 3-4m viewers because it's in the dead zone dominated by ITV's soaps. That it gets as many as it does is a mystery - the British love of the shambolic, perhaps, the oddball collection of contributors, and the dubious, and time-expired, chemistry between the two hosts.
The plan was to soup up the Friday edition, make it an hour long permanently, and give it more of a showbiz feel, by booking more big-name celebrities. I only saw the first show; judging by that and all the trailing on the CEBS this week I think they're having difficulty in attracting the celebs and it's just going to be a television version of his radio show - celebs without the el; an 'el' of a show!
Meanwhile, Chiles and Bleakley have famously taken the hump and jumped ship to ITV, where they'll be paid about twice as much for five times the screen time, to an audience a quarter of the size. Don't know where the sense in that is. _________________ Ron |

Has anyone heard that Katy Perry is on tonight's show? Just thought I'd mention it just in case you haven't heard the ten times CE has mentioned it in his show. |

Actually, it has reached close to 7m in the past and the Manford episodes get about 4.5m on average. In the winter months it runs Emmerdale very close. |

Just think - HarperCollins (a company that has published one of my books, I should add!) has been getting some fantastic PR this last week.
Think about it. Set-up or what?

Funnily enough one of the members on one of the PoV exiles' boards identified Ben Collins as The Stig three years ago.
The One Show on Friday was awful beyond words.
Ditto what I saw of Daybreak this morning. The only time Adrian Chiles looked comfortable was when he was joshing about the women's rugby team. _________________ Ron |

I don't watch Top Gear but I knew one of the Stigs was Ben Collins. Hardly a top secret.
The reason the BBC went to court was to protect the intellectual copyright on a character they own and make loads of money from. Quite right too! I expect them to protect the assets that we, the licence-payers, have funded. |

No big deal but I had to smile this morning whilst making my first tea of the day over in our kitchen.. Radio 2 was on and one of our staff, female, about 22 years old, casually said "Don't Chris Evans get on yer' nerves!"
I still don't know anybody who likes him!! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I don't know anybody who likes him, but there were two or three on the old R2MB who would defend him to the death ... |

My 83-year-old father never swears or speaks ill of anybody, but when my folks were staying with us recently the TV was on and the Friday edition of "The One Show" was just starting. My dad said "Oh, let's switch this off. I don't what it is that the BBC see in that bloke but I think he's a ******* *******!"
Insert two words as you feel appropriate. It's possible that you might guess which ones he used pretty quickly.
My mother then chimed in that although they found Wogan a bit tiresome on Radio 2 in the mornings, hell would freeze over before they ever endured a minute of "that idiot Evans" in the same slot. "He's half our age yet he treats us like we're kids" was my mum's observation.
Does it run in the family, I wonder? |

I must admit (bit sad of me) but I regularly ask those I know and people I meet about TCEBS, especially if they have the radio on or hear mine on in my office and they either say 'can't stand him" or "not bothered about him". I have not met one person who likes him. The only few "fans" have been on the R2MB. |

I've met someone who thinks he's brilliant. She does work on the edges of the radio industry and says he's a great radio person.
I don't talk to her much anymore...
Also, I should say that people who've met or worked with him say he's a very nice bloke. |

I also think he is probably a very nice person, and I would hate to think anything I have said comes across as a personal insult. I just do not like his style of presentation. I like presenters to be "mellow" in style and presentation. |

I agree. I can't recall whose show the ad was for. but it stated something like, doing a music show is just "playing records & talking in between".
But then Ken Bruce has to go throwing his voice around & sending me off to Magic. Still havn't found a good refuge from Radio 2. I even tried Gold but tyhey insist on playing "Brown Sugar" every ten minutes. I think they only have ten records in their collection.
I find the CEBS reasonable to listen to till Evans' gets over excited & starts squeeking.
as to the One Show I would no more think of watching it than Eastenders! Or coronation street. Or the other junk.
I did take a peek at part of "Seven days" that thing set in Notting Hill. Thought it a bit dull. Anyone else see it? |

Not so long ago, I would have recommended Shaun Keaveny's show on 6 Music as an alternative to start the day. I even went so far as to join the protest against the station's closure, but I'm afraid I find myself switching it off more and more often. This week Gideon Coe's sitting-in for Shaun, so it is much improved, but it is only for a week.
Of course, Evans is off this week too, but it's Madely sitting-in for him and I could never stand him. |

I'm not a great fan, either - he's too much in touch with his feminine side, presumably as a result of patronising housewives for years on end on 'This Morning', but it's far more bearable than Chris Evans. |

Strangely since Richard Allinson's original stint as holiday cover for Evans, he has not been considered (apart from the odd day) since, I wonder why? Is it because of the positive press he received?
Could it be that Evans has a more of a say in selecting his stand in than one may think?
Personally I find neither Norton or Madeley no great improvement, and still feel no great motivation to switch to 88-91 at 7.30.
I find all three of them (Evans included) tedious to the extreme, and it proves to me that the R2 management is deluded and far removed from its listeners.
Now if only Johnny Walker could have a change of heart.......

I'd completely forgotten about Graeme Norton's spell on the breakfast show. I thoroughly enjoyed it, though it was hard to ignore the general impression it wasn't a good choice.
I always like Richard Allinson, as he strikes just the right balance of chat and letting the music speak for itself. |

So we can now look forward to BBC claims that Evans has expanded his listening audience, as it's now to start at 6:30. Great, I'll have to retune my radio alarm or move it outwith easy reach, so I can't hurl it at the wall when he starts yelling at me. |

With my patience with 6 Music having finally snapped, I retuned to Radio 2 out of desperation. It's Madely. He's dreadful. I despair.
I'll switch it on again at 9:30. |

I like Rock Radio (uncertain if this is national or regional, certainly Manchester area) but even for me, heavy rock is a bit too much at six in the morning... despite their having names like the great Mike Sweeney, a God-like figure in Manchester commerical radio who I beleive briefly went national. They have a very congenial Canadian presenter called Moose, and even Gambaccini pops up doing special progs and documentaries now and again (a benefit of being freelance?)
But at six am you really, really, need somebody like Sarah Kennedy... we're gonna miss her. _________________ One of the BBC's bad boys, seemingly. |

Come Sunday evening I think I'll set our alarm clock radio to give us white noise at 6.45am the next day. It'll be much more entertaining than Evans' irritating twaddle. |

I wonder what they will do with the extra half hour- will they add something to the front of the show, bring the show forward adding something to the end, or squeeze something meaningful into the middle or maybe just scatter bits in all over the place like Poppy Seeds in a field?
Monday normally kicks off with a brace of Beatles belters after the tide of jingles has gone out. I’m not sure if that is going to work a 06:32. It’s an odd time. It’s too late for the paperboys, it’s too early for dayshift- that half hour between 6:30 and 7am is like the Rubicon- cross it at your peril- yeah Moyles swims or more accurately, flounders about in those waters but who would want to be like him, lolling about in the murky depths of despair? Why not start at 6am? Be ready to harpoon the Moyles when he surfaces- there she blows Captain!
OMG! He’s a Breakfast Show!
Can we keep him?
Are you nuts? Breakfast Shows eat folks like us!
Ahhhh- but he’s only a little Breakfast Show.- look at him he’s so cute and cuddly.
Yeah but he’s gonna get bigger!
What if he’s on our side?
Hey! I’ve got it- what if he’s on our side- you know, having a Breakfast Show around might not be such a bad thing. |

I do make an effort sometiomes to listyen to CE's show, like when I'm driving alone. This morning I dropped the missus early off at the doc's and on the way back, a good 5+ minutes drive I switched to R2, I think about 7.45 it was.
I heard no music, instead it was some Evans guff about assembling an R2 studio toolkit, to repair his chair and studio fittings. Absolute nonsense for a morning show, I'm sure a skilled comic could have made this a quick fun feature but in the mouth of Evans it was just a stretched-out shout-fest and a chance, as usual, to mock Johnny Saunders efforts to join in as only CE could approve additions to the toolkit list ......
Sad and depressing that R2 has plunged to this depth. _________________ -

He put on 1m listeners, then lost 1m and is now back at the same level as Wogan this time last year. No big deal either way. |
