What makes people choose their screen names:
just a place for you to explain names if you feel the wish to etc
eg - I didn't know before that Santafe was a railway (hope I'm getting this right) which Santa is a fan of - thus Santafefan
and also just because I'm interested why people use false names rather than their real one _________________ I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. |

My screen name comes from 'a nod's as good as a wink' a faces album I enjoyed in the past. |

I think I explained mine in my intro (eons ago).....
It's a place in North-Eastern Siberia that I stayed at some years ago whilst doing this sort of thing:
I don't use my real name on forums as my address is easily found via Google via my name, which could lead to problems if someone decided to take issue with me. I've witnessed vindictive trolls on Usenet using addresses for nefarious means so you'll understand that I'm being cautious. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Mine is cause I love biking and most of the kids I work with say I am barking mad; I've always been mad, but its stopped me from going insane. Quote from the late great Waylon Jennigs.

Mine is obvious - Jenny (Jennifer) and W (surname initial)!
I usually have names to do with cats - I have 2 old moggies - but this one is follow over from Chataway. Can you change names though? _________________ I like cats and music |

Yes that is a most beautiful song, amongst one of my favourites of theirs along with Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Yesterday & Michelle.

Michelle is lovely isn't it
My fav though has to be Here comes the sun (but it is obviously a tough one because the Beatles are amazing) I like My Guitar as well (and of course Julia - although it's a bit freaky that's he's singing that to his mum _________________ I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. |

Some of the Usenet newsgroups are infested with people whose sole aim is to disrupt normal posts, then they get really nasty when they're quite rightly criticised for doing so. Some kooks are harmless (there used to be a guy on one of the sci. groups who was convinced that the American government was using tiny law enforcement officers - i.e. ones under 2mm tall - I kid you not!), whereas some are downright nasty and vicious, e.g. contacting the employers of those who posted from their workplace PCs, telling the bosses wild stories to try and get them fired. I gave up with my last regular newsgroup last year because the signal-to-noise ratio was getting far too high. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Mine came from a literal thought. I've never joined a forum before and I could only go for the only radio reference I knew. Had I joined a TV forum I would doubtless be "I lived down the road from Hywel Bennett" |

I'm a fan of Shakin' Stevens (Shaky). I used the name when I registered with my first message board about 9 years ago and have kept it for every board I've joined since then. Its actually quite handy as from time to time you can bump into people that you know from other forums. For example I used to use the Hit40UK boards and a few months after leaving one of the members turned up using the same name on the Radio 1 boards. |

As explained on the old R2 board
Geddon is the name of the last wall of Dros Delnoch the fabled six-walled fortress from 'Legend' by the late and great David Gemmell. It is the wall of death, and also alludes to a song by Pete Atkin and Clive James (yes, that Clive James) _________________ Geddon

A TOG is Terry's old geezers or Terry's old Gals, it's nothing to do with age more a state of mind, like being old before your time and saying "is it me" a lot. |

And wasn't there a case last year where a message board/chat room member somehow managed to track down their 'sparring partner' in real life? I believe the incident made the news and was featured on Jeremy Vine's show. You should be careful. A few on 'jezza's exiles' (who I have seen post on here too) do know my real name. My screen name? Just a play on words, it's about as near to nobility as I'm likely to get, I fear! |

I use Rachel... cos, that is my name... . and... apparently.. it's the female name, men most like to say ( according to FHM magazine anyway)....
That is why so many women called Rachel get their e-mails and texts read out by male DJs but very rarely by female DJs..... |

Lord Evan, I also enjoy Pink Floyd's music, and it was the best wall picture I could find _________________ Geddon

I know a lot of people disliked it but I thought On an island was a really good album, very mellow. The title track is particularly good with the harmonies of Crosby and Nash. |

Two of my favourites off the 'Echoes' compilation are 'Sheep', originally on the Animals album and 'One Of These days', originally from Meddle with it's brilliant bass & slide guitar riffs. I agree about On An Island. It was a good live gig that Dave Gilmour put on at the time too. |
