I find Ms. Ball's inane prattling annoying enough at the best of times, but does she have to bring the nursery ( or more specifically the delivery suite) into the show at every opportunity?
Today's mention for a woman who's having a "c-section" and listening to R2.... too much information!
We know you're fertile, woman, just get on with the show, please! |

Is Ken back next week? I bloomin' hope so! The only positive thing to say about this week's Ball- up is it makes us realise how lucky we are to have Ken. _________________ MiS |

And why does she insist on saying "Zoe in for Ken" after every record??? _________________

I don't know how you lot can listen to it at all. When our alarm-clock radio goes off as soon as Evans is about to open his gob I rarely listen to R2 during the day at all now.
I'll sometimes tune in to Ken now and then (it's a question of switching to R2 rather than switching off) but in my book R2 is now just an inferior radio offering and I generally opt for alternatives via web streaming. There's a lot of good stuff out there - much of it much better than much of R2's increasingly banal output. |

At the moment my Radio 2 is usually OFF 7am until 7pm |

It's 06.30 on Saturday morning and I was daft enough to tune to Radio 2 cos there's nothing on Radio 4 till later.
Lynn Parsons sitting in for Zoe Ball, after one record Ms Parsons begins to relate the misery in her house this week because of her offspring's sniffle.
I ask you, she is fortunate enough to be allowed to broadcast to the nation on the most popular radio station in Europe and that's the best she can do, ten minutes into a two hour show.
My wail of "I DON'T LISTEN TO THE RADIO TO HEAR YOU MOAN ABOUT YOUR AWFUL HUSBAND AND STUPID KIDS AND YOUR AWFUL LIFE ON £100,000 A YEAR, I LISTEN TO THE RADIO TO BE ENTERTAINED!!!!!! probably woke the street.
I voted with my digit......a resounding **CLICK** as the radio gets switched off.......AGAIN!

I do not like many of the female presenters on BBC. They all sound a bit like the gay men who broadcast. My mornings have been destroyed as I do not like Parsons, refuse to be shouted at by Evans. When Ball stood in for Ken my CD collection took a bashing....why do the BBC think they are right all the time? _________________ I like hedgehog crisps |

Zoe Ball does my head in. I gave her a go when she sat in for Ken a few months ago. It wasn't much of a go after her first half hour consisted of endless prattle. She doesn't come up for air. That and having to hear her bang on about her kids, and Norm and celebrities she knows. The off button was hit when she told the listeners she was sat on the loo and had to shout to 'Norm' to bring her more toilet paper as she had to feed the baby who was crying.
Sorry. I don't need to hear that. |

I don't like to be sexist, but its presenters like this which spoil it for the rest. Janie Lee Grace is also another.
I can't say I can ever recall Jo Whiley (the only "younger" female presenter I can think of at this hour) going on about her husband, family, pets, internal organs, holier-than-thou lifestyle. |

Walking Dude, I don't like it when female presenters talk about their kids - I feel as though I want to say 'Other parents are available'.
Gail Porter's 'Speaking as a mother' rants on The Wright Stuff are a good reason to put something else on - these make me feel my own thoughts are useless to other people because I'm not part of the Celebrity Mummy Mafia.
I also feel like singing to the tune of Rush's 'Working Man' 'They call her the Working MUM...' _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I hope I'm not being sexist, I just think the listener deserves better from national radio presenters. Don't the BBC provide any training for these amateurs?
I'd ask Zoe Ball, Lynn Parsons, and any other presenter, male or female one simple question about the the way they fill the gaps between records:
Would you go up to a perfect stranger in the Post Office and start boring them with tales of your domestic arrangements?
You are not in the hairdressers, everyone listening is not your friend and, in truth, no-one is interested. I'm just grateful I don't have to listen to SK's barmy witterings about 'Sainsbugs' etc.
May they all go the same route. |

I take the points being made but in fairness to the female presenters concerned I think perhaps they are just talking about what is normal for them
Men and women are different in their styles of conversation and in general I think women do tend to talk more about their families than men so probably they are just talking about things they would discuss in normal life
I don't think the problem is that they talk about such things
I do think there is a problem when Zoe Ball talks about such things every day between every record usually repeating what she has said earlier so it just ends up being boring
If people want more female presenters on the network I think this will be a growing trend but personally I would like to see progress in this area despite the fact there may be some drawbacks
It's interesting that on the whole men seem to accept female presenters more readily than women |

I don't think that's sexist in the slightest.
As a female, I can confirm that tales of other people's husbands, families, pregnancies, operations, and internal organs bore me rigid. These subjects are usually the sort of things discussed outside the school gates, and one can usually see at a glance the people who like to discuss them.
They're the ones standing alone.
I don't know any males who would seek out such conversations, either. |

Why is it 'normal for them' to rabbit on about babies, pets, husband and all that shite on national radio?' They are there to link records, do a couple of features, break for the news, and provide the occasional bit of background banter, with the stress on the occasional not rabbit on constantly about themselves, their home life, what they had for dinner blah blah. |

Things have progressed hugely in recent years. It's now a pre-requisite for presenters - especially breakfast presenters - to babble on and on and on about themselves, their families, what they had for breakfast, etc etc.
That's what the punters want, it would seem. Let 'em have it.......... suckers. |

Soul Sister I know what you are saying but I think we have to differentiate here between Zoe Ball and the rest
Zoe is the main offender for the problems you mention
Other female presenters might mention their families now and again but not anywhere near the extent Zoe does
Believe me I find it irritating but I guess its a case of the old leopards and spots thing |

Amazing! The original post for this thread was in June. Today, 02.10.10, I turned on Radio 2 and the first tune I hear is Girls Aloud, not my choice of jig-a-jig but better than some of the Playlist poop we're afflicted with/by.
Immediately the record ends Zoe Ball launches into a cringeworthy description of how her adolescent offspring has a crush on the toothsome Cheryl and how she labours to embarrass the lad about it.
May I repeat what I've said before......I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR KIDS OR YOUR BEERGUTTED HUSBAND OR YOUR CROSS DRESSING LITHUANIAN NANNY! YOUR PRIVATE LIFE IS A DREARY WASTELAND TO ME!
Nothing these people say about their personal lives relates to anything in my experience, if all they can come up with to entertain a NATIONAL AUDIENCE is this shite then I HATE THEM for the overpaid, over-promoted tossers they are.
Phew! I'll have to lie down now. |

I didn't hear the beginning of her 'show', but I did hear some at about 7.45, as I put the kettle on.
I just wanted to shout 'SHADDAP' at the radio, even though this is not normally in my vocabulary. I've never heard a more vacuous and pointless diatribe, delivered at volume in a breathless and hyperactive fashion.
Someone please pension off this over-excited bimbo. I've even reached the stage where I don't care what it costs. |

That goes for me too.. I can't stand to hear her in any case but, being a little stressed this morning, it took me about 2 minutes to switch the radio off! I assume that was her dad rabbiting on about something? quickly followed by her completely OTT gurgling.. yuk. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Anne Nightingale seemed genuinely interested in the music she played and her audience, whereas Zoe Ball is closer to the Loose Women kind of presenter - doesn't care what she broadcasts about her family as long as it's all about her, her, her. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!
