.... is my assessment of the current Election coverage across all BBC channels.
I heard a chunk of Jeremy Vine's show today and can only say I'm really glad that I decided, last week, to avoid any programming that provides election coverage or debate.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a Bank Holiday weekend free of all such programming?
Wishful thinking, of course, but hey...... |

The trouble is, none of them are telling the truth about what it will be like this time next year (tax and spending wise) it’s like they’ve “price-fixed” the debates between themselves before the election was announced- as a result they all sound pretty much the same- so it’s come down to style and personality both of which none of the three leaders have in any significant quantity. |

Discussing this on BBC1's "This Week" the other night, Rory Bremner summed up these Mass Debates quite nicely when he said that people who haven't voted before will be presented with a list of names on the ballot sheet and will ask "But where are these three blokes who I saw on the telly?".
I really don't like this Presidential system of politics at all, and I think the three "debates" are nothing but smoke & mirrors. |

I feel the same Colin. Where on earth are all of the other candidates? Have the press been told not to go anywhere near them? If they haven't they certainly mustn't be doing anything of note 'cos we've not seen sight nor sound of them!
Where for example is David Davis?

I have a real dilemma. I personally know 2 of the 8 candidates on our list of prospects.
One is a local Labour Party member I've known for almost 20 years and whose family have worked in local industry for three generations. As a local politician he has helped me out several times to good effect. The other is an Independent candidate who doesn't have a chance of being elected but whose philosophies I agree with 100% and is also a good drinking buddy of mine down the pub!
Hmmmmm.

I suppose if you DON'T vote then you can say you didn't make a preference of one over the other
I haven't voted for years. I've met our current MP (Bob Ainsworth) and he's a decent bloke, who probably didn't choose to be the Defence Secretary, but I'm not sure I want to vote labour. He has a good majority from 2005 so likely will win anyway. _________________ -

I think I'm going to vote Independent. We seem to have a very good new candidate, who was simply stunning at our local hustings the other night.

Our MP is George Osborne, it's usually a Conservative area apart from when Martin Bell stood for the Independents.

That's true. On the other hand, I could tell each that I voted for him and hope they don't bump into each other when I'm not around!
