I'm hoping someone will request 'Language Is A Virus' from Laurie Anderson's 'Home Of The Brave' soundtrack, since Paige referred to Susan Boyle's popularity as a virus after the two duetted on 'I Know Him So Well' on Boyle's show.
I read the quote, and I feel that Paige has no regard for winners of reality shows in general. I'm not one of these who feels Boyle was cheated out of a nomination on the Brits, because I feel their 'cooler than thou' status was lost when Ian McNabb's 'Head Like A Rock' album was nominated, and the winning album was 'Elegant Slumming' by those winebar music purveyors, M-People.
Paige has spewed her venom in the way of the 'Maria' contestants previously. Amanda Platell has reminded us in the Mail that Paige didn't come fully-fledged from Andrew Lloyd Webber's skull, and it took an affair with Tim Rice to keep her in the news at the time of 'Evita'. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

“She was like a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond.
“She is a girl with no experience of anything to do with theatrics, the music business, or art in any way.
“She has done terribly well to be a major star overnight with YouTube.”
Amazing how additionally poisonous the omission of that one little word makes the headline - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/susan-boyle/7089966/Susan-Boyle-is-a-virus-claims-her-music-idol-Elaine-Paige.html - the Telegraph compounding the Mail's villainy.
Elaine Paige has clarified what she meant, comparing it to the rush of popularity which Evita brought her... http://uk.news.launch.yahoo.com/dyna/article.html?a=/30012010/364/paige-apologises-boyle.html&e=l_news_dm
I'm no great fan of either of them. EP's original reading of Memory from Cats makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up, but everything else she does, especially presenting her R2 show, makes me want to throw bricks.
Susan Boyle is what she is - a woman who can sing, like millions of others. For five minutes she had the courage to get up and do it publicly, and her chutzpah and the fact that she did not "fit the normal mould" caught the imagination of the world.
Unfortunately all the charm, innocence and originality flew out of the window as soon as that happened, but you cannot begrudge her the fame and fortune, short-lived as it may turn out to be.
Rapper 50-Cent is said to be interested in making an album with her

Typical disgusting reporting from the Fail and Torygraph. EP's true meaning is clear to anyone who actually reads her words. |

I thought she made a very succinct and eloquent apology/explanation right at the beginning of her show today. I'm not her biggest fan, but I think I know what she was trying to say, and there's no doubt in my mind that she was the victim of press sensationalism.
I also enjoyed the Brian May interview.
So if she could just stop gurgling........... _________________ Minx

Yes, selective misquoting there. But IMO EP would be perfectly entitled to be a bit scathing about Subo and other products of the Instant Fame industry. Like her or not (and I think she sounds fairly ghastly) EP is a seasoned professional who worked her way up the ladder in musical theatre and has well and truly paid her dues with the nightly slog of West End appearances. Subo has been carefully coached through a singing-by-numbers routine, is kept away from live performances wherever possible, and may - for all we know - not even feature all that much on her own album (amazing what they can do with computrers and session singers!). If you were EP, wouldn't your nose be a little out of joint? |

The only show I can listen to on a Sunday in Johnnie Walker's - and even then I listen later in the week on iPlayer. It's the same with SOTS, which I generally listen to on a Monday when doing my accounts or whatever. And that's it. The rest of the weekd is pretty average, in my opinion.
In contrast, David Jensen's "Another Dimension" on Sunday mornings (on Planet Rock) is just right. Great music mix, superb presenter who doesn't get in the way of the music he plays at all and a great alternative to the wishy-washy output of Radio 2. |

I agree Colin, these two shows are the best of the weekend. My listening to radio has never been so little, I grew up with the pirates and have loved radio all my life.........................a love killed off by the latest two dire controllers of Radio 2. I think I will have to buy an MP3 player...... _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

I agree with Colin,Kid Jenson on a sunday morning is a very good show.
R2 is a no go for me on a sunday but respect the fact that it's content must be popular.
ps I can't forgive EP for "i know him so well" aarrrrrrgggghhhhhh _________________ I found out how you can hurt an insect. It's the bees knees |

I liked Goodness Gracious Me's takeoff on I Know Him So Well - about a girl about to be involved in an arranged marriage, and the bit on the side the prospective husband's currently enjoying! _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!
