.... that the insufferable Evans isn't right for Breakfast on R2. I've written to the Controller of Radio 2 telling him to reverse his decision with immediate effect and I expect to hear back from him by return advising me of his next course of action.
I've decided, instead, that we'll ask Johnnie Walker to do it since he's everyone's favourite and a much more professional all-rounder than the insufferable Evans.
That's that sorted then.
I'm very pleased with myself for taking absolutely the right decision. Hell - I could even become "Controller, BBC Radio 2" with these "listening skills"!

I'm sure the Controller will be contacting Evans right now as he wouldn't want to upset his most important listener, the all mighty "Colby."
Or he might write back saying if you don't like it then listen to another station. _________________

You might be agreed Colby but many people have no problem with Chris Evans.
For someone who can't stand him its odd that you've spent the best part of the last 2 days talking about him...... |

I've accepted Evans is here to stay and even though I can't stand to listen to him, I accept he's probably a decent enough fella ( I know he likes animals which is good enough for me ) and I regret some of the slurs I made about him back on the beeb boards... it did get a little too personal didn't it?
But... I still don't personally know anybody who likes him! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Well fine that is your opinion, you have only mentioned it 10,000 times so I wasn't sure.
By the way I like Chris Evans, so do most of my colleagues, my sister likes him a does my niece, that just for starters, I know loads of people who like him. |

Both Mrs W and I are quite happy to have Chris Evans on in the mornings.
It could have been much worse--there was once talk of putting Jonathan Ross into that slot. Had that happened, I'd have switched to Classic FM before you could say knife.

What - about the insufferable Evans being an appalling choice for breakfast? Surely not!

Colby you're starting to sound like a 4 year old now. Chris Evans is taking over on breakfast end of.... no matter how much whinging you do its going to happen....
No doubt we'll get you quoting the first sentence of that followed some hilarious "like Chris Evans" comment.... |

Actually, we aren't. I've read through the threads and taken a count of posters for and against Chris Evans taking over from Terry. While the "against" camp certainly makes the most noise, I can reveal that, not counting myself, and Shaky Fan, who has never expressed his opinion on the subject itself, the "scores on the doors" are 13 for and 12 against.
The other R2 spin-off forum I visit from time to time is equally divided, with the casting vote held by someone who would rather Paul O'Grady got the job
I daresay the BBC board is firmly in the anti camp. When I last looked there were no less than 30 separate threads going on the subject, and even I don't have the time or will to sort that lot out.
Interestingly the TOGs themselves are not as cut up about it all as one might expect. They're in a world of their own and, although there are one or two acid remarks in passing about the new boy, by and large the mood seems to be one of acceptance.
So, 13 for and 12 against. Make that 14 for:- I'm sorry, Shaky, you're not going to get the casting vote because, having thought about it, having read Mark Lawson's article in the Grauniad, and Gillian Reynolds (who was listening to Chris Moyles when Terry made his announcement!) in the Telegraph, having listened to some of the last two days' Drivetimes, and having cast about to think of a better, long-term candidate, I've come to the conclusion that there isn't one. I'll explain more in the morning. _________________ Ron |

I guess you had better add me to the "against" number and like Colby I don't personally know anyone who likes or listens to Chris Evans.
I find the prospect of being being assailed by Chris Evan's yapping voice and hyperactive presentation style in the morning (or any time in fact) dreadful. So I will be one of those people searching for a different radio station in the mornings. The only bright thing is that I may now be able to listen to Drivetime. Stuart Maconie would be an excellent host (in my opinion, of course).
I can't understand why, if CE's chosen vocation was to be radio presenter, he didn't have some vocal coaching. Maybe he is so arrogant that he thinks his voice is OK? |

I read a newspaper article yesterday which said that Evans will do the show his way. Well I didnt expect anything other, but I am sure millions of breakfast listeners will be looking for a new station from January 2010. It would seem the BBC have been swamped with complaints about this appointment. |

I was chatting with my neighbours a few minutes ago as they prepared to drive off in their car. With the passenger window open as we talked I could hear Mr Wogan on their car radio.
"So you'll be looking forqward to listening to your favourite station come January then?" I ventured.
They both rolled their eyes.
"Definitely not. We can't stand that idiot" was the reply, adding "Still, we're just the listeners so we obvously don't count".
I'm inclined to agree with the sentiment, as you can probably guess!
Looks like it's settled then. The insufferable Evans is totally inappropriate for the slot. _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

Oh how true! You have very perceptive neighbours - I think they speak for a great many people. The BBC has ridden roughshod over our opinions for far too long.
After all, they think we want Alan Carr and Evans for Breakfast _________________ MiS |

To be honest they come across as being grumpy sods at times and I knew what the answer to my question would be so I was being a bit naughty!
That said, listening to Tel in the mornings is part of their routine and even though they're not "TOGS" in the official sense they still regard it as their show. (They're not even keen on JW standing in as he's "too different"!).
And they hate BBC managers imposing something as insufferable as Evans on them! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

No we’re not all agreed. That seems pretty obvious to me. There are though more than enough Chris Evans fans to make his new breakfast show a great success. With regard to your individual thoughts on the matter- they have been noted but as you are the fork in the world of soup, your thoughts and opinions don’t carry a great deal of sustenance. I can hear Bob laughing from here. |

So someone can hear Bob laughing from here, if you mean the Radio 2 controller then I am sure he wont be laughing in February of next year when the listeners have desserted Radio 2 in droves at breakfast and he realises that Radio 1 listeners still listen to Moyles because of the music that station plays. Still what do I and millions more know that he doesnt, we bow to his inspirational skills thats why he is the boss and knows what the Radio 2 listeners want far more then they themselves do. How stupid of me for not realising this before. |

For the record I have no problem with Chris Evans - his period on the Radio 1 breakfast show was probably the only time I ever listened in at that time. |

Updating my earlier message, because more people have chipped in, and Shaky has now spoken the Ayes still have it, with 15, against the dissenters 14.
As far as I can see, although there is much hot air and volume up to 11 against Chris Evans, no-one has actually suggested a credible alternative.
Perhaps that's because there isn't one. _________________ Ron |

PG – the forums represent a tiny- vanishingly small percentage of listeners. As I’ve said before, most forums (including this one now) are very negative places. The same few hundred people (if that) moan and drip on about the same presenters all the time. All I know is – I like what I hear on Radio 2, if you don’t, you have choice, you can listen to it then moan or you can do or listen to something else. It’s quite simple really. Cue Cloby “ It’s my BBC – I have a right to an opinion”—well knock yourself out babe. |

Rachel, in terms of radio 2 I listen to breakfast when JW is on, Ken Bruce and Jeremy Vine although the radio usually goes off at some point through that show. The remainder of the day schedule is unlistenable as far as I am concerned. I also listen on iplayer to Johnnie Walker Sunday show, Alex Lester and other shows that appeal to me. I dont think these forums are negative places it a place where people can moan and praise (I do both on here) and I have seen plenty of other people offer praise and support of programmes and presenters as well as post critism. If I dont like whats on Radio 2 (ie afternoons) then either the iplayers gets an airing or I tune to another station. |

PG- cool beans! Enjoy the shows that you like. Life’s too short to moan about those that you don’t.

Maybe Hugh should have asked, is life too short to post on Internet forums?
With a very similar answer I think.
Colby, you are deserving of great congratulations- I am known for my tolerant approach to other people, indeed many years ago now – I had to change shifts at work: when I asked why, my boss said, you’re the person least likely to punch Jeff (a real irritating prawn). For years I suffered Jeff, and I never punched him. But you have succeeded where Jeff failed. Your conduct on this board is so repellent, that even I, the only person never to have punched Jeff, am minded to just not bother posting here any more. |

Oh come on now Rachel, you are better than that. colby is laying it on thick here but don't let him get to you.
Colby, I suggest you try and be a bit more mature on here, don't lower yourself to the Evans infantile level.
Rachel, colby isn't the only one disappointed with the Evans appointment, you will have to accept that.
I for one will complain to the BBC every time I hear an Evans/breakfast trailer. There will be no need for them.

I have similar feelings to yourself Rachel. There no longer seems to be much discussion on the boards - somebody starts a genuine topic to discuss but the regular nim-wits just post the usualy tripe about the fact that they hate a certain presenter in question. It has made the boards very stale and very uninviting to potential new members. _________________

John, what a fantastic idea to complain every time a trailer is played for Evans new show. I have complained about some of the in the past, especially when every trailer is for his show. The one with that dam recorder did my head in. Im 39 not 5 and want to listen to a proper radio show with a presenter who skills far exceed trying to play an infants musical recorder. |

I can't see that.. as fans of Evans will say, if you don't like him - don't listen.. surely the same applies to these boards, if you don't like the anti-Evans posts - don't respond? it'll only prolong the thread and invite yet more criticism and bickering.. ( personally, I don't give a hoot )
As for new topics from new members ( or established members ) why should anti-Evans posts effect whatever else they may wish to raise?
are they so sensitive? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

See the funny side of it, Rachel - you're easy bait! Given that you love to wade in with counter-arguments on topics that don't really need intense debate (remember my "iPlayer on my Phone" discussion?) I have to say that you're probably your worst enemy. By posting that I knew you'd bite - even though I thought it was a valid topic about developing distribution platforms.
Poor old Jeff, eh?
