Graham Norton sits in for Steve Wright on 7th September. I don't know if it's the whole week. Is it a celebrity which now sits in for Steve after Dale Winton has had his go? |

Why don't they leave these celebs to the television where they work better? I can watch him on saturday night TV but I don't think I'll be trying the radio show out. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I know he's getting a bit desperate after his Saturday night shows failed, but come on, don't inflict another 'celebrity' upon us! Bring back Mark Radcliffe (+ 1) to this slot!! |

What can I say? Why can we not have Mark R or Stuart M? Even Richard A, but NOT another preening celeb. I usually look forward to SW's holidays, but this is too much. _________________ MiS |

It looks like Graham is in all week. It looks like Zoe Ball, Emma Forbes, Alan Carr, Dale Winton, Patrick K, Gabby R, Liza T, Craig C, Paul O Grady, Graham Norton even Tim Smith and Lynn Parsons fit into the age range which Radio 2 are looking for? If it all goes tit's up at least they have the other experience broadcasters to fall back on? I think I covered almost every one we have seen come onto the station over the past year? |

The only presenter in that list that I would tune in for is Lynn Parsons. What a line up..................... _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

That's the celebrity culture taking over Radio 2. They qualify as they are in the age range for what Radio 2 are doing. |

I don't get this "celebrity culture" jibe.
Nearly all the names mentioned are no more nor less celebrities than the existing Radio 2 presenters. And most of them do have previous presenting experience - it's just that in days of yore it used to be radio presenters who graduated to television and now it's the other way around.
Zoe, Emma, Craig, Dale, Paul, Gabby and Patrick are hardly inexperienced in the art of conversation and being able to talk to an audience under pressure. Whether I actually like all of them is another matter but the first five names there can certainly hold their own in the radio studio.
You never know, Norton might actually be quite good. Wait and see. _________________ Ron |

I wasn't keen on Dale Winton, but Norton takes the biscuit! Thanks to his role as Father Noel Furlong in Father Ted, I'll be expecting people to request Queen's 'Bo Rhap' or 'Fat Bottomed Girls' on the CD CV!
Norton seems to have a clone who does continuity announcements on the Fiver channel - it's his annoying tones that precede 'Everybody Hates Chris'. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

At least Dale Winton has done Radio. Before even taking over POTP's. It's not about sitting there and spinning a few songs, or in some cases someone else. It's bringing a talent to Radio and trying to entertain the listener. Hopefully they won't remove the talent who know about the music they are spinning? |

Quote: | Graham Norton is sitting in for Steve, from Monday 7 to Friday 11 September 2009.
In 'The Dirty Half Dozen' Graham wants to hear about the songs that you love, but given that others might find them cheesy or embarrassing, are basically a bit of a dirty secret for you - hence DIRTY HALF DOZEN!
So whether it's Village People, Dolly Parton or even Westlife - we want to know your musical embarrassments! To take part, send us your choices - and any stories associated with them - by using the form below.
Graham will be playing a new 'Dirty Half Dozen' each day from 1500 to 1530, and the lucky person whose embarrassing choices are selected will have the chance to have a chat with Graham on the radio!! |
Some of these ideas must be made up by staff at Radio 2. |

"Lucky person"
This is hardly new - Sarah K did it for years as her "Love-Hate" slot, before the Showtunes . _________________ MiS |

All of the above "features" for inclusion in the Norton show sound a bit naff to me, so I'll continue to rely on either Spotify or Planet Rock in the afternoons as I toil away over a hot keyboard!!! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

Well I listened today and it wasn't bad at all.
Nowhere near as camp as I'd expected, in fact less so than Dale Winton; pleasant and easy to listen to, the only criticism was Graham talked too fast on occasion.
Enjoyed the "interview" with Alan Davies, some decent music as well, and best of all no sycophantic posse!
More please. |

I did actually listen to a slice of the show later on and I have to say that it made a welcome change from listening to Wright.
You're right - no sycophantic posse makes a change indeed. _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

I'd had enough radio by the time he came on so flicked the 'off' switch.

I enjoyed his show today. A little rusty, it is his first day, but got himself together. Although I don't know why Mark Radcliffe etc were removed from cover afternoons?

Yes Radio Cleveland used to have an excellent presenter called David Wiseman. I have often wondered where he had disappeared to. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Back to the original topic; I listened again today and have to admit that Graham Norton has so far been fine. Not excellent, but far better than most of the recent "celebs" have been. Makes a nice change to be able to listen to R2 in the afternoon without having my finger permanently poised over the off button! |

Ann Robinson was interviewed by Graham and she said " Your good at it" better than a 25 year old blonde with no experience. I think the technical part is awlful, so many gaps, whoever is doing that needs to sort it out. This is what the problem with celebrities hosting shows with no radio and technical experience leaving it to the producers to run the desks.
It's just not what I was expecting Radio 2 turn into. I was expecting to have the orignal hosts covering shows, instead of TV presenters turning TV shows into Radio shows. |

What I've liked about Graham's style is the fact that it's less frenetic than Wrighty's, more in keeping with Terry and Ken in fact. Admittedly it's early days but I do wonder how many other fans of Messrs. Wogan and Bruce might warm to something similar rather than the exact polar opposite with which we're being threatened?
It's how I like my radio presenters, I tune into R2 for good music and topical, amusing conversation, not to be shouted at. For that reason alone my tolerance levels start dropping after 12 noon and are at their nadir immediately after the 5 o'clock news. |

Looking at the press office website. It looks like Steve Wright and the team are not in on Children In Need Music Marthon day, or it maybe the whole week. Graham is back covering for Steve. |

Yes Graham is back for the whole CIN week. No pictures of Wrighty with his children in need hat on. I think this is the first time the team have missed CIN week? |

Now not wanting to start a rumour, BUT I just wonder if Graham Norton will be the person to take over the TV CIN when Terry decides to give that up as well?
Maybe he's getting a taste of it on radio first?
