If you'd like the low-down on when Sir Tel will hang up his headset and pack his microphone away, check out the Times Weekender mag tomorrow...it's all in there... |

Radical morning change if Wogan pulls the headphone socket out and shuts down the mic. |

I wouldn't condone such acts of vandalism, Mark. perhaps he should just pull out the plug on the end of the headphone cable instead! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

Is it another yearly interview which he didn't say anything of the sort? The words were just added to make it look good? Just like the interview he said he didn't realise he was being paid for hosting Children In Need. Maybe he should have changed his accountant. |

I bet all he says is the usual "I'll quit when my family tell me to" or something along those lines.
He'll still be here this time next year saying the same thing. |

Just says he'll go before he's pushed, and his family will let him know when time is right. Not a terribly revealing article, but he'll be sad when the time comes. So will we. _________________ MiS |

Thanks.
Same as usual then I'm sure he will be sad when the time comes, not an easy decision for anyone to make really after so many years. |

I can't find the article, but seems the same old. I can't see how he will know when he will be pushed out? Unless they give him a hint. At the end of the day Wogan can't last forever and sooner or later will have to give up, and will want to. |

Mark - buy the Times, it's quite simple! Then you would know that he doesn't want to "give up". _________________ MiS |

I do wonder how much longer Wogan will go on for.
What is his incentive for continuing with his radio show. |

The fact he still loves broadcasting Mark, that's enough surely?

David Jacobs, Desmond Carrington and Brian Matthew are all still going strong at over 80, and the network is the better for their presence, so we could well have Sir Tel around somewhere on R2 for many years to come.
Re the weekday slot, I would prefer reorganisation of the day to straight replacement. See my posting of today's date on the Shows page.

MIS-We clearlycome from different sides of the tracks I think.
In the East End of London where I live the word "mighty" is a common used word which has a "special meaning". |

According the Mail on Sunday, Digital Spy and Radio Today - he's going in March 2010. They have already got someone lined up and the new schedules will be released in Decemeber.
We know Chris Evans has always been favourite with Simon Mayo taking over drivetime. We also know station is bringing a lot more female broadcasters to the station. Zoe Ball is due to give birth in the next 7 Months in time for her to take over Breakfast if she was considered. Johnnie Walker would be a great replacement and has proved so popular on Breakfast doing different stuff and not the same emails from the same old. As I said before, Wogan can't last forever, and I'm sure he will leave before he's pushed. I would think the BBC are looking for a replacement all the time, because he could leave at any moment? I think if he did leave then the person would be temporary. Richard Allinson or Johnnie Walker? I would think someone else from outside would be good? Neil Fox, Neil Francis, Johnny Vaughan, Or Christian O' Connell? Maybe they could pair up a male and female? It's a guessing game and some media outlet, etc is always trying to retire him. |

Have you got a link from the Mail On Sunday because I can't find it anywhere on their site, which makes me think someone is winding us up once again.
Also remember the Ken Bruce fiasco that they were making up?
Strange they supposedly put it out when he is away and can't back it up one way or another. also what about the article in Times Online on Saturday? No mention of it in there.

I have been looking for a link to. I saw something on Radio Today forums, but no links. Maybe someone is winding us up.

Walker is under the generation for Wogans listeners. So if Wogan left they maybe ditch Walker on Breakfast for a younger cover person when they are off? We have to wait and see when it happens. |

Why do people think, like me a current Radio 2 presenter should take over Radio 2 Breakfast? There are well known broadcasters in Commercial Radio who have achieved as much success who could take on the role? |

Bollox It isn't even on their website, the 'story' was probably never even published.
Terry will go when he's ready, those that want him to go sooner will just have to lump it. |

That's what I thought as well Toggy. There was nothing at all on their site so it's a total wind up.

Here's a name that could be in the running for Radio 2 breakfast....
He's already on Radio 2
He's said to be quitting Channel 4
He'd be very popular with the wide demographic of Radio 2 listeners
He's genuinely funny and engaging
He'd bring guests on to the show because he's one of the best loved people in showbiz...
"The Paul O'Grady Breakfast Show" ... you read it here first |

Posted: Thu Sep 03, 2009 5:05 pm Post subject: Wogans Book |
|
|
Quote: | Broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan has taken aim at "self-important" newsreaders, who he says have "the easiest job in the media".
The BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host made the comments in his forthcoming book, Where Was I?! The World According To Terry Wogan.
"Newsreading is not something to get self-important about," he said.
The star was referring to an unnamed journalist who refused to sit in the same studio as his co-presenter.
"Why your man left in such a huff is a mystery. It's a piece of cake, the easiest job in the media," Sir Terry, 71, said.
Get your good suit and tie on, a quick dab in make-up (in Fiona Bruce's case, the lippy is going to take a tad longer), make yourself comfy and here comes the six o'clock news, all written nicely and clearly before your very eyes.
"Read it clearly and distinctly, ask the reporter the questions you have written down in front of you."
Sir Terry, who attracts more than eight million people to his radio show, said he knows exactly what the job entails because he has done it himself.
"And before you start with the 'fair play old boy, there's more to it than that', I was a radio and TV newsreader and there isn't."
The book will be published on 9 September. |
