The worst, most pointless, most boring, most long-winded competition ever devised for a radio show is still on every Saturday morning between 7.30 and 8.00. Need I say more? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

He might as well give the prizes away without asking the questions. CT can have his dressing grown back when he joins radio 2. |

Mo Dutta is perfectly fine for us early risers at the weekend. I often catch his Saturday show but admit I do cringe when his Saturday Quiz starts. It's a never ending painful experience!
I reckon Mo Dutta should just get straight to the point rather than take us for a mystery tour around all the houses and back streets of Birmingham. |

If I wake up before 0730 the radio usually goes on until I hear the small snippet of Michael Gray's "The Weekend", then it gets switched off immediately before the most boring quiz of the week gets going.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Yes I think it is the quiz that is the tipping point for me too. The other parts of the show are just mediocre to bad, the quiz bit is torture. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I think the quiz is supposed to take the P out of likes of GMTV etc how they are so easy to win.
Mo does talk for britain, and I'am sure if I was the newsreader and heard the start of the jingle playing over the top of my voice I would ask him to let me finish. |

If the quizzes on 'Get Me The Valium' were any easier, they'd be telling you the answers as well. It's an insult to one's intelligence but obviously a great way of offsetting the salaries paid to the (now faded) presenters....

I'm not keen on the little snippets of music advertising what's coming up in the last 1/2 hour - although he needs all the help he can get to retain his listenership, presumably. If our forum is any indication of the country in general (ha!) then people must desert R2 in droves at about 0729 (Ricky Salmon then reads the news to himself....)! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Making him slightly more interesting to listen to would be a miracle, never mind magic.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Reminds me of an old joke, the punchline of which has God saying that while he might be a miracle worker, this is asking for too much from him. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I've only just noticed this Thread....
Ernie!!! I'm in shock! How could you? Mo is fantastic.... and his Saturday Quiz is the Broadcasting Industry Benchmark for Quality Audience Participation features. Apart from a few hotel chains, where else can you bag a Tea Pot and a Dressing Gown, free?.......... |

I think Rachel's phrase "the Broadcasting Industry Benchmark for Quality Audience Participation Features" should be 'trade-marked' on this site for future reference.... Oh, I dunno! Listened to a bit this morning whilst debating whether or not to get up at 0715.... I'm not sure whether it's his delivery (long pauses, almost dreary style of speech with an occasional inflection) or the announcement that 'that quiz' was coming up next at 0740 finally motivated me enough to a) switch the radio off and b) get up....
I think he must have been reading my comments on this board as there was no quick snatch of 'The Weekend' before the 0730 news to warn me that the quiz was coming up soon.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

sadly I usually catch him after 07:30 as I wake up at my regular time and SOTS doesn't start until 08:00. It's just time filling waffle and a rubbish quiz where they answer one question and win everything. |

Mo, is a one off… he has such a wicked sense of humour, that is so dry, it can take a few days before you realise that he said something hilarious…….he’s real, he’s down to earth , he talks about real stuff , like mince pies and tea….he’s like your favourite uncle ….you know the one I mean, he makes you will for a wedding or a funeral, just so you can get to see him again……. cos he’s so much fun…… |
