It is strange and seems like I'm back tracking, but it's nice to have him back on Saturday mornings. He's been talking about Christmas with Andy Davis and Twitter which is a network site. Enjoying the music..
I suppose it's time to move on now. |

Yes Mark, I completely agree.
After ten minutes I moved on to Capital Gold..
That's about all I could stand this morning, just a barrage of yap.
maybe I wasn't in the mood for it.... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

A fantastic return on both television and radio. Just the right level of contrition and self-deprecation followed by the usual but unique presentation style. It almost feels like the last three months hasn't happened - and we get a new controller |

Who are you trying to kid? The only thing higher than Ross's salary is his own self-esteem. Buy him for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth, you'd have enough money to bail Gordon Brown out.... and change for a fish supper! |

JR is past his sell by date for me. I didn't watch him on TV or listen to his radio show. I watched a good film on DVD last night instead and this morning after SOTS I played CDs by Tom Pacheco, The Cicadas and Iris Dement. Great stuff! |

Its good to hear him back, after what we have had to endure the last few weeks, but he could do without twittering, giggling Andy talking about building his shed and spain etc
The best bit was near the begining after the apology when he told Andy his opinion didn't count...well said |

After SOTS I tuned in to Century Radio and listened to Chris Tarrant. Now that's an admission! Then I re-tuned to Radio York and listened to Allinson's Albums. Who wants, needs or cares about Jonathan Ross? Certainly not me, I just care about the massive amount he is being overpaid! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

This sort of talk is obviously so natural to him that he doesn't realise it is offensive. The BBC do themselves no favours. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Oh for Heaven's sake................
This is the sort of thing Ross used to waffle on about before the Sachsgate affair.
Perhaps the media should remember that he was punished over that, he served his time as required and now he's back - just carrying on the show as before.
This scrutinising of his every word from now on in needs to stop and let the man do what he does best - entertain us. It's very sad when critics can't see past his salary. |

It's on the front page of the News of the World today. If these editors really want to criticise the BBC there's another perfectly legitimate row to be had at the moment - forget about Ross - to repeat Wogan: nobody has died! |

As he's a freelancer he wouldn't have his p45 posted to him. I can't see why Radio 2 never pre-recorded his show. It does show that there still is a lack of judgment at the station. |

I agree Angela completely with your post.
Quite frankly anyone who can make jokes about disabled people does not deserve to be broadcasting to the nation imho. |

I heard Steve MacDonald using it to justify his phillandering on Coronation Street last week - that Wogan has a lot to answer for.
Seriously though, all this talk about making jokes at the expense of those with a disability - I actually find it more offensive when people suggest that we need to ban such comedy. It smacks of protectionism - everyone is fair game in comedy and to exempt certain sections of society from it indicates a sense of prejudice.
What is essential in these situations is that malice is not meant. Perhaps the call to Sachs overstepped the mark here (if indeed it was really made - a question still strangely unanswered), but malice was obviously not meant in the exchange on yesterday's programme.

I think JR was a bit silly to say what he did, I would have thought he would have been better off toning down a little for the first week or two at least but that's just the way he is I suppose. |

Agree with that, Nick.
But I also think that to mock someone's disability or someone's senility ONLY for one's gain - i.e. get more laughs, get more viewers/listeners, therefore get more money - should be discouraged.
A suitable method of discouragement is to suspend the guilty party for 12 weeks.....

Then when he comes back and does the same again, as he will, suspend him again for 12 weeks.
That way we'd only have to put up with him about 4 times a year. I think I could just about put up with that!

It’s all very well saying that JR is “just joking” – he doesn’t really mean it, when he picks on a particular type of person or group, in order to spawn a laugh, but he should remember that not everyone listening is as intelligent, well informed, or as insulated from real life as he is. So when he broadcasts a joke, he has the responsibility to ensure that the joke works at all levels- surely that is why he gets paid so much. If he cannot make people laugh without making the victims of his humour cry – then perhaps he’s not as clever as he and others think he is. His reckless indiscriminate humour cascades though society like a viral tummy bug, giving the green light for anyone who looks up to JR, to abuse minorities in the real world, at the less fortunate side of life.
His humour doesn’t match the price tag. He needs to change or be changed.
“ you left a crate of beer on a vibrating bed – what did you think would happen?”
I did listen to a small section of his show this week while ironing hubby’s shirts- his airport car-parking story was really funny – why can’t he deliver that sort of humour for the entire show? |

People need to get a sense of perspective here.
If you can't abide JR and you are extremely jealous of his salary then it's highly likely that you don't listen to his Radio show or watch his chat show.
Therefore you have to rely on what you read in the papers and the hysteria with which they choose to report such incidents.
If, however, you do watch and listen then you should know what to expect. Quite honestly, if JR had claimed to have had sex with the Queen and Pope simultaneously I doubt if I would have even looked up from my cornflakes. JR has ben doing this risque stuff for years. The answerphone incident was a step too far but he has been punished for that and we have been rewarded with the resignation of LD.
If you think you or your children are going to be exposed to this sort of "filth" on a Saturday morning then please just turn the radio off or over. By complaining about a program you don't listen to makes you look really stupid. |

Thing is Angus you shouldn't have to turn off your radio at 10 o'clock in the morning just in case there is 'filth' (your word not mine) broadcast.
Funnily I had it on as I'd wondered what he would say at the beginning but once music had started I was pottering around with only half an ear to what was going on and I completely missed the offending part!
I heard some later bits which, as Rachel has said, were very funny.

On the contrary, JR is easily likeable as a personality- he’s a fun guy: it’s his behaviour on air, at times, that is occasionally offensive. His salary is nothing to envy either as it comes with so much tabloid fame and notoriety- wealth on its own, in any of its forms, is a much better situation to find oneself in. I wouldn’t trade places with JR.
Quote: | Therefore you have to rely on what you read in the papers and the hysteria with which they choose to report such incidents. |
I believe the BBC (Ross’s employer), reported the incidents, in great detail, in every news bulletin, on every BBC channel, and every BBC Radio Station, for over a week, indeed, Radio 2 themselves, made a feature of it, on the JV show.
Quote: | If, however, you do watch and listen then you should know what to expect. |
I can’t comment on his TV show( and never have)but his radio show is on if we are in the house on a Saturday morning, so I stand by what I said earlier.
Quote: | Quite honestly, if JR had claimed to have had sex with the Queen and Pope simultaneously I doubt if I would have even looked up from my cornflakes. |
Me neither, because that would be “obviously and clearly” a joke.
Quote: | JR has been doing this risque stuff for years. The answerphone incident was a step too far but he has been punished for that and we have been rewarded with the resignation of LD. |
Gary Glitter has been punished but you wouldn’t put him charge of a Girls’ School.

My children would laugh their socks off. It’s not so much the “filth” it’s the insidious nature to some of his humour that causes the problems I referred to earlier.

Only in the same way as complaining about a Government you didn’t vote for. |

No it doesn't Angus, I don't listen to Ross exactly because I know through listening previously that he is not to my taste and not what I want to hear on a Saturday morning (or indeed any time at all on Radio 2) .

Because that would require comic genius, and he ain't got it***. All he has is a big mouth and head to match.
I suppose that, by his standard, the short exchange on Saturday was nothing remarkable; the tabloid press, scrutinising everything said on his return from the sin bin, have picked up the bone and tried to find meat on it. It's all of the level of lads-down-the-pub-showing-off-and-talking-rubbish, and it's just galling to think that we're paying him £3m a year to broadcast it in the name of popular entertainment.

Hands up all those complainers about Ross who have complained to BBC about it's repeats of Eddie Izzard with it's constant use of the f-word.
I work in a care home and no one here seems to be worried by Ross. _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |
