Dale moves to Saturdays as he counts down classic tracks from the charts of of the Sixties, Seventies, Eighties and Nineties.
3.00-6.00pm Dermot O'Leary
Dermot's show moves back one hour to 3.00pm and continues to feature live sessions from up-and-coming and established artists, celebrity interviews and music.
6.00-8.00pm Going Out with Alan Carr (from 25 April)
Comedian Alan Carr eases listeners into Saturday nights with a new highly interactive show featuring music and lively conversation. Alan is joined each week by Emma Forbes and together they invite listeners to call in to discuss their Saturday night plans.
Alan says: "I can't tell you how excited I am about my new radio show. Emma and I will be getting listeners in the mood for Saturday nights, whether they're going out and about or having a quiet night in with a ready meal and a cheap bottle of plonk. You've had the hairy cornflake - now you've got the fairy cornflake!!"
NB: Pirate Johnnie Walker will be broadcast between 6.00 and 8.00pm on 4, 11 and 18 April.
8.00-10.00pm Paul Gambaccini with America's Greatest Hits
Paul moves to the heart of Saturday night, playing America's greatest hits from the US charts of the week and the past five decades.
10.00-11.00pm Documentary slot
The Saturday night music documentary slot moves to the later time.
Sunday
1.00-3.00pm Elaine Paige On Sunday
Sundays see Elaine Paige on Sunday extended by 30 minutes. This highly popular show features non-stop show tunes, movie soundtracks and interviews with the biggest names in theatreland. The newly extended show kicks off on 5 April with an Abba special which sees Elaine reunited with Benny and Bjorn.
3.00-5.00pm Johnnie Walker's Sounds Of The 70s
The legendary Johnnie Walker plays classic tracks from the Seventies.
Johnnie says: "It's going to be a complete joy to revisit the decade when so much great music was made on both sides of the Atlantic. In those days I was doing a lunchtime show for Radio 1 and it was a struggle to fit album tracks into their Top 40 format. Now I'm being encouraged to play all those great artists like The Who, The Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen and Led Zeppelin and, from America, The Eagles, Steely Dan, Lou Reed and Jackson Browne. We're even bringing back the original quiz Pop The Question. When I was growing up Sunday afternoons was compulsory listening so I'm delighted to be actually presenting a show in that slot."
5.00-7.00pm Paul O'Grady On The Wireless
Paul O'Grady presents a new show for Sunday teatime bursting with character and using unique features designed to interact with his listeners around the UK. Celebrating what's great about Britain and its people, the show's features include Thank You, where Paul invites listeners to tell him about the people who have done something to make their lives better, and a monthly competition, Tea For Two On 2, where a listener can win tea with Paul and the team.
Paul says: "I am delighted to be joining Radio 2 having been a regular listener to the network for as long as I can remember. I've enjoyed doing my special shows for Radio 2 and I can't wait to get started. It's about time after years of being everyone's stand-in – they've finally come to their senses and given me my own show!!!!!"
7.00-8.30pm Alan Titchmarsh with Melodies For You
Alan moves to a slightly later time, presenting popular and classical music from Wagner to Mantovani; The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to Gilbert and Sullivan.
The Sunday schedule remains the same from 7.00am to 1.00pm with Good Morning Sunday (7.00-9.00am), Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs (9.00- 11.00am), Michael Ball's Sunday Brunch (11.00am-1.00pm); and from 8.30pm until midnight with Sunday Half Hour (8.30-9.00pm), Russell Davies (9.00-10.00pm), Malcolm Laycock (10.00-11.00pm), The David Jacobs Collection (11.00pm-midnight). |

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but I think it's alright. I'd rather Gambo and Carr swapped places but it's generally solid and varied.
And the Comedy Hour seems to have gone! |

Ian, I was being positive! I like the new look schedule. And Pick of the Pops is back in its rightful place.
Not too keen on Elaine Paige, though I am pleased Sounds of the Seventies is back! |

Only Dale Winton, Paul Gambaccini and Johnnie Walker's shows appeal to me there. I don't like Alan Carr's charmless 'comedy' and Paul O'Grady is bottom of the bill stuff to my mind. |

Plus 1/2 an hour less of Melodies for You.
I presume they have to make these up elsewhere to hit their commitments. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Yes, I know they're still making comedy shows so I guess there's going to be a weekday tweak (again) soon. |

No, I don't think Alan Carr counts as comedy
But there's a sketch show still to be broadcast, and a film-themed panel show is being recorded this weekend. I suppose they may be slipped in over Easter though. |

I am speechless that they have given Alan Carr (has he got the most irritating voice imaginable ) TWO HOURS on Radio 2 _________________ MiS

Alan Carr's voice is like a fingernail on a blackboard, in a word awful.
The Sunday schedule looks ok. |

Seems like an improvement to me. I do like the new (old?) POTP slot. Much better than the so-called "comedy hour" too.
As for Johnnie's new show, I dunno. As long as we get more "Baba O'Reilly" and less "Tie a Yellow Ribbon..." I'll be happy, I suppose.
A revived Pop The Question, eh? Should be interesting. |

About the only radio I catch with any regularity during those times is Paul Gambaccini's show, usually while I'm getting ready to go out. To quote Professor Higgins I'd be equally as willing for a dentist to be drilling, than to ever have to listen to Alan Carr, never mind discuss my arrangements with him.
And with all due respect to JW and all those bands he mentions, don't we get enough of those (albeit not the longest tracks) any time of day? Are we going to get some Druid, some Molly Hatchet, or some Pacific Eardrum?
Paul O'Grady's show sounds like a return to the Charlie Chester/Ed Stewart wholesome Sunday afternoons of forces and family reunions, caring and charitable deeds etc. Hope he can stand the pace. _________________ Ron |

now thi sis the sort of innovative schedule revamp i waited in vain for Lesley Douglas to bring about-I think we are in for some exciting times with the new radio 2 boss judging by this initial set of changes
with Alan Carr and Paul O'Grady on the lineup radio 2 will be funnier than ever..and in a dark gloomy world of credit crunch etc that has to be a good thing!..meanwhile Johnnie Walker doing a dedicated 70s show is just the best news for all music fans. Its just a shame they didnt take this opportunity to give Simon Mayo his own weekly show.Maybe theyre saving him for the weekday morning slot . |

Well, I like the look of this. I'm so happy about the triumphant and timely axing of the comedy hour!
I'm a bit surprised JW has deciced to give up a chance to play a range of music to focus on the 70's. I'm sure he'll make it a great show to rival Brian Matthews' brilliance but JW has some great taste in modern music, and I'll miss the little gifts he picks out for us. Oh well, there's still Bob Harris and the RadMaccers.
As for Alan Carr - I liked his show over Christmas, and I enjoy Emma Forbes' contributions in the afternoon, so I'm looking forward to hearing him take the reigns.
Paul O Grady... well, yeah, not sure he's going to my cup of tea, but I'll give him a whirl.
Still such a shame that celebs get pride of place over DJs with a passion for good music. I was so hoping for Lauren Laverne but I guess it wasn't to be.
Saddest news though - Gambo's show moving to 8pm. It was always a great show to get ready to on a Saturday night... I imagine I'll mostly miss it now sadly. I can't help cringing at how the publicity tries to suggest that Paul G has been promoted 'to the heart of Saturday night'... does 8pm on a Saturday night really get many listeners? Perhaps it does, but I doubt it. |

I like Alan Carr, I must say. He's very funny on stage and knows exactly how to work an audience, although I do think his appeal is simply because of his campness - which he overplays a bit too much still.
I think he'll be funny on R2 for a while, but I also feel that once the novelty wears off for him the show will quickly lose its appeal. |

Not sure about this.
I detest Alan Carr so Saturday night tea will be a no go radio area once again.
Probably the same with Sunday as I don't think I'll enjoy Paul O'Grady at that time.
Shame Alan Titchmarsh is losing 30 minutes although I think it only used to be that with previous presenters.
POTP - at least there will be something on Saturday to listen to but I'm not always around so it will be missed more times that listened to.
Jury's definitely out on this one.

I wonder why the Comedy Hour has been dropped? Has this content been moved to a weeknight slot I wonder?
As for Melodies for You losing 30 minutes, I'm not remotely bothered. Alan Titchmarsh came on too early. At least I can now listen to Radio 2 till 7pm Sundays just like I used to in the Ed Stewart / Johnnie Walker days.
An excellent change to weekends I think! |

The Comedy Hour was good when it was first introduced in 1996 (by Jim Moir), however in recent years the content has been absolute tripe. There's only so much Buzzcocks humour one can take... |

Personal? Compared to what her precious 'pet' Russell Brand used to get up to, I think my calling her a stupid cow is tame.
Good riddance to Russell Brand.
Lesley Douglas alienated a lot of listeners during her reign. I was one of them. |

Steve Wright was happy his Sunday show is still around at the start of his Fridays show. Although looking at digital spy some people wanted to axe it from the schedules. Cheeky bugger has been reading the message boards again |

Sounds of 60's on a Saturday, with more 60's at 1pm on POTP's. I wonder if we will have more 80's and 90's played on POTP's? |

I still doubt that the new controller would have put them through if he didn't agree with them.
At the end of the day it's his starion now.

Not necessarily. If the changes were already set in stone then Bob Shennan would not have been able to change them, even if he disapproved with them. Perhaps he will undo Lesley's work when he gets the chance? Mind you, with the way he changed 5 Live he might pick up from where Lesley Douglas left off.
It was Bob Shennan who introduced the unpopular Eamonn Holmes, Richard Bacon and Stephan Nolan to 5 Live. |

Sounds Of The Seventies isn't new as it was first heard on Radio One in April 1970.
http://www.radiorewind.co.uk/radio1/sounds_of_the_70s_page.htm
Pick Of The Pops has been heard on a number of stations like Capital Radio and Capital Gold. I think it's right bringing to Saturdays. The comedy hour has had it's hit and misses. |
