I awoke very early this morning and listened to Alex Lester, now did I miss it or has he dumped that connection between 2 people competition thingy ? , because I found him not too bad and he played some good music, which we could do with more in the daytime on R2. |

He has been on over nights for many years. It is a shame he never covers more shows with him living closer I think the London. |

I realise he's been on for years but I couldn't stand the competition thing he ran to get people to text in. |

Alex Lester has been in that spot since the late 1980s according to http://www.r2ok.co.uk/R2_timeline.htm _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

He's occupied the 3 to 6am spot since 1994, having had shorter shows in early morning for the previous four years.
Like the other night-time shows (Radcliffe & Maconie and Janice Long) he has the freedom to play a wider selection of music than you get in the daytime, although he's still obliged to carry the A-Playlist and the box of well-worn oldies like the Bluebells, Gloria Gaynor and ELO.
As to his threads and sense of humour, nod, look no further than here http://www.r2ok.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2655
or alternatively come back in about nine hours time, by which time I'm fairly certain that a few magical pearls of enlightenment will have settled in the box after this one... _________________ Ron |

Oh No! Nod – do you realise what you’ve done? No? Oh well, that’s completely ruined it- maybe next year. There was me almost a week into my self-imposed Alex detox, then you go and dangle this in front of me- just when the shaking and convulsions had started to subside too- (the truth is I’ve been secretly listening under my duvet – so the detox wasn’t really going that well anyway – even with all that prune juice with Bifidus Regularis).
But… yes the Odd Couple thread thing finished ages ago –where’ve you been? I think it may have finished before the big London Gig started last April. In a way you’ve done me a favour because I was going to ask today if anyone would like me to start a new show diary-( weekly) something like
Alex Lester – “Seekrets of the Dark 2009?” |

I can remember when he had a spot called 'Band On The Run'! And what of the tales he regaled us with about 'man water' when, on return from a session in the pub at night in sub-zero temperatures, the aforementioned 'man water' was required to de-ice the hatch of the Baloo Pig
Baloo Pig was the house boat he was living on in the days when his show came from Pebble Mill. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Narrowboat. Boaters get very picky about terminology. There's a world of difference between a narrowboat, a houseboat, a barge and a longboat, all of which terms are frequently used in error. |

Alex is the cute one.
So, 2 votes out of a possible 169- I was worried that 2 votes wouldn’t be enough so I’ve contacted The Frank Dobson School of Democracy, and they tell me that by applying the London Mayoral Labour Candidate election formula, it’s an overwhelming majority in favour of a new Alex Diary! See! Politicians can be useful. Who am I to stand in the way of democracy? Watch this space- well not exactly this space but a very similar space that exists only in my mind. (It’s a very large empty space at the moment- well actually it’s not empty – it’s full of stuff – it’s just not joined together in any recognisable coherent pattern). |
