We visited Southend on Sea today.
We walked along the beach and could not believe how warm the sea was (after putting my hand into the water a number of times)
I was expecting it to be absolutely freezing but it was not. Plenty of folk were paddling-quite bizzare really considering the time of the year. |

I'm not surprised to hear this, I believe it's often the case that the sea is warmer than air temperature at least in our part of the world.
It still makes me shudder to see surfers in the rough waves with snow and ice on our roof.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Sea temperature near the coast is currently about 10degC. Clearly where it runs over cold sand or shingle it will cool more but it is unlikely to be as cold as the air is at present.
All down to the gulf stream and the sewage outlets... |
