Sadly Jeff didn't quite make it
First time I've looked at athe charts for years, depressing isn't it, 3 singles by Beyonce, nothing against her but is there no competition ?, 2 by someone else I forget, and the rest is full of x-factor types |

This is seemingly the first time that the same song has been at nos 1 and 2 in different versions concurrently since Guy Mitchell and Tommy Steele were there in January 1957 with Singing the Blues.
The Righteous Brothers and Cilla Black reached 1 and 2 respectively in 1965 with You've Lost That Loving Feeling. But they might not have been there in the same week. I'll have to check when time permits.

I listened to the Radio 1 chart show for the first time in years - what a load of rubbish! Just lots of wittering, and they only recount the top 10 before Number 1 rather than the Top 40. If even the chart show is going to treat the charts with such indifference, what about the rest of us? |

Fearne Cotton is the most irritating b***h in broadcasting history. The Chart show has been crap since Mark Goodier left. Wes - who took over - was OK as a presenter but was let down by the dire format - JK & Joel who followed Wes were even worse but still a million times better than the current muppets! |

Who's version is at no 36? I wonder where the versions by John Cale, Rufus Wainwright, Katheryn Williams & Leonard Cohen are, and does that account for all the versions played by Jeremy Vine every day for one week about four years ago?! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Aled did say on the Afternoon show that Drummer Boy would have been Number One with people going out buying the single, but these days downloads are counted. So they went backwards to number 13. Unlucky for some.. |

Yeah, and he also pointed out there was 500,000 difference in sales between him and Alexandra so he'd never have been Number 1. |

Woolies stopped stocking singles back in September. Zavvi stopped shortly afterwards. Most HMVs carry a decent selection and you can buy them online. |

They tend to be well hidden in most of the branches I've been in - a side shelf near the counter usually! And they move them round quite a bit from my experience. No wonder people don't buy singles, they can never find the bloody things in the first place! |

You have to look very carefully for them. Although HMV still stock them (Top 30 and new releases only) they are well hidden. _________________ Ron |

I asked in the HMV I visited, they don't stock them. |

I love that song Halleluajh. But alexandra version is a bit overstated.
I like Lenny's version. Also kd lang did a decent cover
As to buying singles, they are probably more often downloaded now
Seems like HMV keeps them in a secret place. Maybe you have to purchase them under the counter in a brown paper bag |

Jeff Buckley's version is at number 2 in the charts. But while Magic play the X Faxtor girls version every hour they have yet to play Jeff Buckley's version! Considering it is at number 2, & it woukld relieve the tedium playing a different version once in a while, it is amazing that Magic will not play the other version!
Have they a contract with the X Factor that stops them playing any other version? |

They probably don't know about it! I was listening to an interview with Louis Walsh last week where the choice of the song was brought up and Louis responded by saying "loads of acts have covered it, even Leonard Cohen did a version!" |
