I have to say my initial scepticism has given way to realisation that there are a lot, lot worse presenters than DB, and R2 have given millions of pounds of OUR money to some of them!! |
What MiS said.
Compared to Evans at his silly shouty worst (as in today's show) or Wrighty's smugness, I'll take DB (but not ZB) anytime.
Just read your last post, Milady, and am happy to inform you that the three "gentlemen" mentioned irritate the hell at least one "Daily Telegraph" reader as well! |

As a yardstick to popularity, the fairly lacklustre Tarbuck and Freeman show at No.9 in the R2 iplayer chart.
Baker & Ball got to No.2. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

I did REALLY well this week, ten whole minutes before my innards threatened to choke me. Wossy was bad, but the Bannister reject was extremely dire, I have even stopped listening and contributing to 6-0-6. Zoe was inoffensive and ineffectual.

Aliss Moss you mean? Yeah, quite agree. She was the best Baker foil! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

I'm not surprised at all.. I heard parts of the show but what I did hear was dire. She sometimes sounded like a French & Saunders micky take of a Radio 2 female presenter... The Beeb must be capable of better.
By way of a contrast, I was driving home last night listening to Suzi Quatro.. a different kind of show I know, but she can do it with ease! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I used to like Liza Tarbuck, particularly on the Linda Green TV series, but this assumed "radio persona" attitude that she puts on really gets on my nerves. Saturday morning's show was a nightmare, everyone talking at once, too much chat altogether and this high pitched artificial voice she seems to feel is appropriate. To be honest, I'd probably rather listen to Zoe Ball! |

The topic was the TV series 'Kojak'.
Freeman: Did his brother George suck a lollipop?
Liza: No, just Telly. |

Yeah - see I think Liza's okay with Radcliffe but the problem is with her is she doesn't really know anything about music - and on Saturday mornings that becomes glaringly obvious. |

Lovely, perfectly observed comment from SantaFefan about Tarbuck...
"She sometimes sounded like a French & Saunders micky take of a Radio 2 female presenter... The Beeb must be capable of better."
They are. Danny Baker. Got to No.2 in the Iplayer chart. Tarby and Co. got nowhere. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Now wouldn't it be a nice New Year's gift if the Beeb came to their senses and axed Ross. It's been good being able to switch on to R2 on Saturday mornings! _________________ MiS |

You're not alone my friend. This just in...
A letter headed Freshening the airwaves in the 3-9 January Radio Times: "I hope Radio 2 awards the Saturday morning 10am slot permanently to Danny Baker and Zoe Ball. Their show (22 Nov - 13 Dec) was a joy: no shameless back-slapping or endless stories about knowing other celebrities, just good radio. The story about a lady who fell in a freezer made me laugh louder than anything Jonathan Ross has ever said. Baker, as he does on 5 Live's 6-0-6, turned simple anecdotes into radio gold. Richard Conway, Stafford."
Nice one Richard.
I have to say, much as I quite like Alan Carr - this is a tough listen on now! (Alan Carr's Office Party - Xmas Eve)
Danny Baker's many years in radio demonstrates that there really is no substitute for experience. No matter how funny a stand-up Carr is.
You may not care for Baker but at least, for once, applaud Radio 2 for trying out someone with more than a fortnight's experience of the medium. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Merry Christmas Your Ladyship!
Personally Alan Carr makes me cringe, so I am enjoying the festive delights of Classic FM.
Agree with the RT letter. I'm sure we are not alone... _________________ MiS |

Oh, if only.... Then again, that would involve sense prevailing. Never gonna happen. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I've mentioned this before, but a friend of mine who's worked with hundreds of people in the entertainment industry (and teaches in a state school) says that Liza Tarbuck is the most horrible person he's ever met. She's not nice at all, and for me the insincerity comes through every time she's on the radio. |

Subjective opinion. Fair comment. But nevertheless give me tried and tested radio pros like Baker over untried, raw, television chancers. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |
