He's the Editor of GQ magazine- he also has a regular feature in the Mail on Sunday Live Magazine..... I think his claim that he is the new R2 Controller was just a little joke....... he does seem like a nice chap though - really grounded and on the case but way too honest for his own good.... |

Presenters would be better dressed anyway if he was the boss. Things havent been the same since the requirement to wear a dinner jacket while broadcasting has been dropped. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Well reading that, apart from the odd one or two requirements- mainly "Recognised industry/media figure with extensive programme making experience" - I could be in with a chance.

With respect Mark, how would any of us listeners know who would be a good controller or not?

How would you know Mark?
If she was that good she would not have had to resign in the way she did.

Yes, Helen, past few weeks all the praise she has had but I've not seen a list of her successes - other than acquiring Chris Evans
Personally she disappointed me several times over, removing from the schedules a lot of music I used to listen to, so I would really be interested in what she did achieve!
I expect her achievements were mainly to do with getting some sort of deals going with current artistes and their managers for 6music and whatever but what did she do for Radio 2 that was so great??
From that job description above, presumably, she satisfied most of those requirements, but how? Where is the evidence for us listeners to recognise?

What I can't come to terms with John is the way she keeps being referred to as a 'broadcaster'. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I thought that meant doing some 'broadcasting' on a radio or television show?
I've heard her speak only twice I think, the JV show on the day she was appointed and on an edition of Feedback she actually decided to show up to.

H, well said, she is not a "Broadcaster", she was an executive.
What she has done is alienate millions of listeners by introducing "Broadcasters" (using the term VERY loosely) that are totally inappropriate to R2, and remove much-loved programmes. Thanks Lesley _________________ MiS |

Not just on Radio 2 but also 6 music as well, I'll cite the continuing furore over George Lamb as the best example of this over there. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I think "Broadcaster" is being used in the industry generic sense in the same way you may describe the Harrods boss as a "Retailer"... which I'm quite cetain he is but I've never seen him on the till. |

Given the disastrous track record of "broadcasters" running radio and television stations (eg David Frost and Frank Muir at London Weekend Television, Frost again, Parky and Anna Ford at TV-AM, and Matthew Bannister and Trevor Dann at Radio 1), I'm not sure that that qualification is such a crucial pre-requisite. _________________ Ron |
