1. Axe the bloody playlist. We don't want to hear the same record several times a day. We grew out of that when we left Radio 1.
2. Pension off Steve Wright. If ever someone was past their sell-by date it's that conceited Essex Boy mediocrity.
3. Stop using TV presenters. O'Leary presents entirely the wrong show for peak time Saturday, and what is a Claudia Winkleman anyway. God, she's awful. It's like being caught at a party by someone who's had to much Chardonnay and won't stop talking. Start making better use of radio people, like Maconie and Allinson.
4. Move Elaine Paige. Sunday lunch should be family time and not everybody likes show tunes. Anyway, the show has run out of steam and the giggle has become irritating.
5. Replace Michael Ball with someone who can do a magazine programme. Just because you are a musical star doesn't mean you can replace Parky, anymore than Parky could replace you as Marius.
6. Improve the range of music played. There's a wealth of music out there that never gets played.
That'll do until lunchtime _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

Give us a wider variety of music - not just at the edges of the schedules but during daytime too. We're all old enough to cope with a little change of style now and then.
Don't be in thrall to pluggers and hype. |

Stop trying to appeal to a more youthful audience - the youth have Radio 1, leave Radio 2 to those of us who are over the mental age of 30.

Mix things up in daytime. Its deadly dull & repeatative. Change the music & move a few presenters to new slots.

Yes whole heartedly agree scrap the playlist or at least feature tracks and albums on there that wouldn't be played to death anyway.
Don't mind the Elaine Paige show where she is actually don't mind the genre and it is often diluted with film scores and pop records, so is not really solely full of showtunes.
For heavens sake Parky left Obviously I'd say leave Michael Ball where he is, the show a far brighter way to spend Sunday morning now. He hasn't played much theatre related music (usually only if a guest requested it) interviews are interesting and genuine and the newspaper/entetainment reviews are coming along fine.
I don't think weekends is too bad really for variety of music but I agree that if you listen all day during the week, you will hear the same music over and over again. _________________ Put some records on while I pour |

Mark, I presume the saying you were toying with is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Well I beg to differ, it IS broke, and I entirely agree with the OP on this, he has spoken for many of us. I was particularly amused by the " what is a Claudia Winkelman anyway" bit, as I've been thinking for ages "why is this woman ubiquitous" when there appears to be no reason at all. _________________ MiS |

I essentially agree with most of the foregoing. Dare I beat my usual drum a little and ask for an hour per week of a Brian Kay's Light Programme-like offering?

Do some people want the station to go back to the old days of Carpet and Slipper and no entertainment like Ross delivers? I hope the successor to Lesley changes somethings, but don't turn it into a old fashioned station? |

Mark, is it so wrong that those of us over 40 would like to hear a little more programming aimed at us? If I wanted shouting and screaming I'd tune to Radio 1. Unfortunately, it is often hard to tell the two stations apart _________________ MiS |

How about telling us what you'd like to see changed Mark?
I'm pretty happy with things as they are although I agree with those who think Russell was mis-placed on 2.
I like Jonathon Ross too, but he needs to clean up his act a little - for Radio 2 at least.
I'd like to see Dermott moved or certainly his show shortened.
Hopefully, we'll hear more of Johnnie Walker and maybe a couple of older DJs brought into daytime weekend slots... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Talking of Parky, have you seen that he's going to be doing a programme again on Sunday lunchtimes (12 - 1), on his website ? Great news. |

That's exactly what the vast majority on this board want
I like the diversity of Radio 2 and I would be very disappointed if the likes of Chris Evans and Steve Wright were forced out. I'd also be disappointed if JR doesn't comeback, although I think that is a likely outcome to this event although he will continue with his TV commitments but quietly not return to the radio after his suspension has been lifted _________________ Chris Evans' Breakfast - doesn't sound quite as good as Chris Evans' Drivetime but good nonetheless! |

That wasn't what I suggested at all. The last thing I want is to go back to the old days, of Frances Line was it? I like Ross and hope he comes back. I just want to see a more diverse range of music and an end to this damned cult of celebrity. It's bizarre to think that because you are good in one field, be it motoring journalist, reality TV presenter or star of musical theatre, it somehow automatically qualifies you for a job on the radio.
I still don't know who Claudia Winkleman is _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

Thanks PJ.
I didn't put people like Evans or Wogan in because I listen to Radio 4 at those times so I thought that wouldn't be fair of me _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

It's the repetative playlist list that gets on my nerves, most of the daytime presenters I like, even Evans. Yes he shouts and I admit I sometimes have to turn him off because of it but that's Chris. |

I agree with the first 2 posts.
It should be remembered that radio 2's remit is to those aged 35+
This does not include the kids who regularly ring Evans. The fact that Radio 1 has abandoned it's audience is no reason for Radio 2 to do the same. I look forward to some radio sanity. _________________ Geddon

Sorry, but I completely disagree with all of your points. I think Radio 2 is fine as it, though some improvement is required in certain arears.
Here is my "To Do List" for the new Controller:
1. Revamp breakfast. Wogan needs a good kick up the backside as he has become too complacent. I would also like breakfast to be extended, say 7.00am - 10.00am. Make Wogan work an extra hour a day. If he can't handle that then sack him.
I'm sure Johnnie Walker would quite happily become the new breakfast presenter.
2. Axe Jeremy Vine/move to 5 Live.
3. Bring Marc Riley to Radio 2.
4. Axe Sunday Love Songs. This programme is seriously, well, hideous.
5. Introduce a weekend breakfast show, with Richard Allinson as the host.
6. Sundays - introduce Paul O'Grady to present a programme featuring easy listening and interaction with the listeners (similar to the old Ed Stewart show).
That will do for me. For now. |

Parky "retired" last year, yet is still cropping up here and there. Maybe he's bored?
I think Michael Ball is doing a splendid job on Sunday mornings. Long may he continue. |

Maybe great broadcasters never truely retire. As I recall he "only" retrired from his tv chatshow & his radio show. He didnt say he was taking a vow of silence as far as I recall. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Well, he's keeping himself busy then. I've seen him on Sky TV and AXA Sunlife commercials, too. But is Parky a great advertising gimmick? I think not. |

There's a whole load of stuff I listen to that's similar in nature to the current output but which I've never heard on R2 before* - even Bob doesn't play them. I too would like to see the play list either scrapped or cut down in size - with so much good music out there, why restrict what people listen to?
* currently have tracks by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Michelle Malone and Gemma Hayes on my iPod (well, Sony Walkman....) - never ever heard any of these on R2 before. You can add the likes of Anna Nalick, A Fine Frenzy, Liz Phair (yes she does sing stuff that doesn't include dubious lyrics!), Nina Gordon, Alice Peacock and Amanda Marshall to that list. All fairly similar to other stuff I have heard on the network.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
