I don't listen too intently to Ross' show on a Saturday nowadays because at times it seems to turn into just a noise of people shouting and talking over each other all the time.
But today, when talking about something to do with kids, I heard him stick his foot in it ( in my opinion ) by blurting out something like "it could be made more realistic! get some Hoodies in there, a stabbing maybe"
Nice one Wossy, I'm sure some parents lately would appreciate that.
I also heard a snippet of him wanting on about Wadio 2 message boarders and how they actually hate everything about Radio 2 - posting absolute bile...
only some parts of it Jonathon.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I wonder if he's been listening to George Lamb's 6 music show, apparently he's put his foot in it a few times in a similar manner.

With good reason I think, but not just on radio 2, there's a helluva lot of disappointed posters on the 6 music message boards. Now what have the two stations got in common? Aahh yes a woman called Lesley Douglas (though she wasn't responsible for signing Wossy) _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I didn't catch what brought it up on his show but I think he must have been talking about the old BBC boards. I can't be bothered to listen again but I'm sure he said something like "this is why they were closed". _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I heard the show too, and found him impressively on form throughout. The comment about hoodies was a well observed and witty reflection on the Disney-world portrayed in High School Musical. It was said with a tongue firmly placed in a cheek and was not offensive - jokes about the media-frenzy over the 'stab culture' are to be found on practicaly every satirical show at the moment - the biggest joke is on the news mediums that work parents into a anxious mess over 'violent crime' when statistics show little change over the past ten years.
I think all comedy is justified just as long as a) it is not maliciously directed at someone in particular (which I know Wossy does from time to time with Heather Mills etc. which is a bit of a shame), and b) more importantly, it is actually funny and original. I think Jonathan is one of today's cleverer wits - not least for the amount of material he manages to churn out...and often, apparently, off the cuff.
Secondly - his comment about the message boards. This is something he's said before, and he was right - the old BBC boards were half-full of 'poisionous bile'. Let's not forget that and remember what a good job John W does in keeping this forum up to a standard where people can discuss the network in a relatively friendly and safe atmosphere. There's nothing wrong with being critical of a presenter but throwing bottles of hate around is anti-social and indicates a base character. I'm glad it's practically been wiped out on these forums.
Nick. |

It must be the POV Wadio Message Boards. It's wonder they really all read them still? |

I'm pretty sure he meant the old Radio 2 ones, Mark - he commented on how they had to be closed down due to the 'poisionous bile'. |

Oh right, does he live in the past and can't move on? |

To comment about something in the past or on reflection doesn't mean J.Ross has to live in the past Mark. It sounds reasonable to me to think back at how bad things were and compare to how much better they have become. Good post above from Nick too. You sum it all up nicely. |

I don't think it was well observed or witty. From what I've seen of the film, it is what it is, a squeaky clean fun film, like Grease maybe?. It's very, very easy to make a jibe about it not being realistic. Have we forgot how to enjoy escapism?

I'm sorry Nick, but I don't see how it can be anything but offensive. I'd agree with your Satire Show comment, the "humour" of which sometimes goes a little too far I think, but I'd expect the BBC to be a little more careful - particularly on a Saturday morning.
Would Jonathon make that "joke" in front of a community suffering from knife crime? or if his pampered kids had experienced a situation?
I don't think he'd be quite so cocky.
I'd also dispute your view on violent crime. In my area, and we're talking Norfolk! it's shot up for sure.

Maybe they were, I don't know. Apart from the usual two or three culprits, I didn't have much of a problem with it, in fact I thought it was all great stuff on the whole. Maybe the truth is, Jonathon and Chris didn't like the criticism? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
