... Sunday Love Songs, that is.
Woke up at 9.45 (late night out, friend's barbeque) just in time to hear him read out the day's sporting events on the BBC, including the final day's play in the Third Test between England and South Africa on Radio Five Live Extra. Which match, sadly, finished on Saturday. _________________ Ron |

Best to avoid SLS with a hangover, or indeed, sober! Of course it's recorded.( So is "The Big Show"). Shame the tapes don't "accidentally" get wiped before airing. _________________ MiS |

I'd like to think that they weren't pre-recorded but when a show isn't live , there's a vibe, a kind of warmth, a feeling of nowness, a sense of existance that just isn't there. It's not easy to explain but a live show is like being on a rollercoaster with a friend, you're there, you can feel it, touch it , vomit on it, and laugh about it together, a pre recorded show on the other hand, is like , you didn't get to go to the funfair cos you had to work, and hearing about other people vomiting on a rollercoaster just puts you off your tea... |

Some manage it better than others. Sounds of the 60s and Pick of the Pops are both pre-recorded, but only Dale makes it all sound much flatter than the average 7-inch vinyl single. The contrast yesterday when RA took over at 4.30 was like the lights suddenly being turned on in a darkened room. _________________ Ron |

Oh shows like SOTS and POTP are ok pre recorded cos we know they are , there's no illusion .It's when they pretend a show is live when it isn't, that doesn't feel right .
Yeah RA was good last night - he played my request too which I sent after the show started - so he was deffo live and in colour.

When I used to be on hospital radio I usually went out live but now and again had to pre-record to cover holidays, domestic commitments etc.
I agree that I was always more self-conscious when I pre-recorded.
You'd have thought that Steve Wright and his producer would have had sufficient experience to avoid such an obvious pitfall.

Very badly put together. The Music ended and there was dead air for a few seconds before 10am.
I think Steve and the team are trying to voice track the show and it didn't work. |

Gadzooks! Next thing I know, you will be telling me that the 10 ways to improve my romantic life, that Steve undoubtedly personally researched & tested before reading out on air, don't actually work! _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
