On the R3 index board, there's a message extolling the virtues of 1970.
I had quite a good year but it was exceeded by 1976 and 2000.
Conversely, I'd like to consign 1966 and 1986 to Room 101.
Any offers either way from you?
Ian. |

1976 was good- I can remember building hay bail camps during the long hot school holidays...and I guess it would be called tomb stoning, these days, from the breakwater ( it wasn't very high really)
1995 was just fantastic! The end on an era - the start of something new ... 2000 was also fab and not so cos my first marriage was disolved for no good reason ( I was traded in for something more sporty and left on the scrapheap) however .I met loads of fab people that year, got to drive a formula one car ( an Arrows) and was mistaken at not one but two occasions for Ralph Schumacher's wife ... which made my year!!!

1973 was the first time I got to fly in an plane (in fact it happened four times that year!) All courtesy of the air training corps.
1976 was the first time I had a holiday abroad. We went to British Columbia, Canada and travelled across to Ontario where we added around 20-30 new relations to our list that we were previously unaware of. Whilst we were away, the heatwave ended. The parched brown sad looking lawn we left behind had become 6" at least of lush green grass! Abba was No1 with 'Dancing Queen' when we left in Early September and was still firmy entrenched there when we returned home in October!!
Basically all the years I'd consign to 'Room 101' are in the 1980s, an awful decade IMHO, for me personally 1985 was the worse. Best maybe 1989. Not so much that it was the last year of that decade, but because I had my first flight in a hot air balloon. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I felt 1967 was a great year for me personally, everything seemed to be right somehow, despite having parents who didn't get on at all.
Some of my favourite music came out, Magical Mystery Tour amazed me completely... school was enjoyable, some television programmes were unmissable - Batman, Monkees and The Invaders for example, and girls were coming round our place to hang out whilst we played snooker on my new table and talked about forming our first group... at 15, it felt good.
My dad bought me a decent telescope and I started to take notice of Patrick Moore.
1968 was the opposite. Mum had left and I came home from school one day and dad said he'd sold our lovely hotel and he'd bought a house. I hated every brick of it.
I still yearn to buy back our old place, every memory I have of growing up is there.
1980 was good and bad, we bought our first house which was great but later in the year, the stress of losing my dad and other things brought on real bad Asthma and nearly killed me. ( found I was allergic to house dust.. no carpets for me - ever again. )
1983 was great - first time I went to California, I'd only dreamed of seeing some of the sights we visited.
1991 wasn't so great, got made redundant from Architecture after 23 years but amazingly, things worked out ok, borrowed £120k and bought property then in 1996 borrowed another £300k and bought a hotel, gutted it and turned into a residential home. How the heck I managed to borrow all that being self employed puzzles me today..
I feel I've been very lucky over the years with not many bad ones to dwell upon. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

SANTA
got me a bit worried there: "Started to take notice of Patrick Moore"?
Sure you grew out of it. |

I think I stopped growing out of things when I turned twenty five! I've been on hold for 31 years. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Hard to say. I recall 1972 and 1973 fondly. I was young & carefree & the world seemed fresh & exciting. Carefree days |
