it's not as simple as yes or no though is it?
I have zero interest in any sport but I wouldn't vote No, it wouldn't be fair to others.
I just wouldn't read it. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Good work Angus. |

As one who was roundly disagreed with for suggesting a TV board, I don't think a sports one is necessary. If you let in one specialist subject, where does it end?
You can write about sport in Coffee Bar or Current Affairs--and please do.

Ian,
As I said on the other thread we have a Book Board and a Theatre Board, both under-contributed. Their installation did not lead to a flurry of board requests.
I agree we can't be having every subject under the sun with it's own board, but if there's a significant wish from members, demonstrated by a big vote in the poll then a Sports Board must be considered.
It may take a while for votes to come in as this place is very quiet these days. I reckon we have only about 45 regular members posting but many of them are only weekly contributors.

I wholeheartedly agree with Ian on this one and I think it is wholly unreasonable to expect to create a poll and then expect any actions to be taken from it.
As I've said before, and I stand by it now, there will NOT be a sports board at this moment in time. As Ian rightly says, his suggestion of a TV board was rejected and to allow a sports board would not be fair, especially as at present there is not enough traffic to warrant yet another board.
Please vote all you like, but be aware that Angus main aim here is obviously not one of most of you, as you will plainly see that he pretty much likes to stir up trouble.
Angus, a sports board has been denied at present, so why you feel the need to push things and deliberatly cause trouble between the mods/admin and the regular posters is quite distasteful. And John, this is something that we need to discuss in private! |

Admin,
I not trying to pick a fight with you, neither am I trying to stir up trouble. I have said in all of my posts on this subject that I don't think a Sports Section would be of any interest on a music based forum and I voted against it on this poll. I have no interest in sport in general. I find cricket tedious, golf even more so and rugby pointless. I really couldn't care less whether we are hosting The Olympics or not and I don't care if Duane Chambers has been taking performance enhancing drugs or eating Jelly Babies. I only follow football annd unless this board is full of Spurs supporters I doubt whether I would use a Sports Section.
Only you will decide what you do as only have the ability to create a new section but it's a pity you can't approach the matter with a litle more tact and diplomacy as this just smacks of a power trip. I know this isn't my forum and I'm not trying to tell you how to run it. I come here because I love music and Radio 2 and it's a welcome retreat from running my own forum and although I'm not an ardent poster I have made several valuable contributions to this board ie the advice I gave on removing the ads at the top of the page.
My involvement in this matter is now closed. Mark would have undoubtedly carried on with his mission regardless of my involvement. Please stop making me out to be the main instigator of this "trouble" because that is NOT my intention. |

I think this is pretty much the summing up of the whole situation.
Sports can be posted in these sections already, so it isn't like there isn't a place to post about sports. |

Lets be clear I am NOT on any kind of mission. I'm just a fan of Richard Allinson, music, sports in general and parts of Radio 2.
For God's sake this is only a message board site.
I think a sense of perspective is required. I think the heavy handed way that admin treat posters needs to be reviewed asap.
I couldn't care less anymore what is included on this board. As John Wright has mentioned this place is very quiet-45 members who post regularly-I wonder why this is. |

Mark,
Let's just put this whole thing behind us.
You say I am heavy handed? I said no to another board. What else exactly have I done that is heavy handed?
Then, you and Angus have seemed to make it a personal mission to get a sports board introduced. Regardless of what you say Mark, both you and Angus have gone on and on and on about this matter, which is unusual when you say... 'I think a sense of perspective is required.'
There is a place to post about sport Mark, please do so there, and let us put this discussion to rest.
PS - What exactly would you do if you were the admin of a board, someone asked for something and you said that it isn't in the boards best interests, then someone starts going on and on and then a poll is started in an attempt to bully you into ammending the board you envisioned and created, to suit them?
Yes, I am protective, which may come across as 'heavy handed', but the point is Mark, I ahven't done anything against you to stop you posting anything you want, I am merely saying no to another section. Please, have some perspective. |

Admin-The only thing I can conclude is that you do NOT want folk posting on this board who might possibly have a different opinion to yourself.
Goodnight. |

Mark,
As i have said you can post about sports in the coffee bar. I have not said do not post about sports.
You have posted about your dislike about the fact that I do not want a sports board at present, and I have not done anything to stop you.
Please do not misconstrue my unwillingness to create a sports board for you, with 'NOT want folk posting on this board who might possibly have a different opinion to yourself.' I think everyone has different opinions about everything, and I do not stifle peoples opinions. If you are feeling the refusal to create a sports board as me stopping you posting about sports, then I think you need to step back and actually look at what you are saying.
PS - Mark, I find it somewhat unsettling that instead of actually looking at the points and responding, you are merely making sweeping statements that you cannot actually backup. |

I dont really see what the fuss is about. The line between the coffee bar & News & Current Affairs is very flexible anyway, so we end up with news posts in the coffee bar & light stuff in the news section. I imagine it would get worse if there were more seperate sections. As long as people put the a clear title in the thread subject we should be ok as is IMO. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Come on boys- it's only a game.
If it's topical sport (Oh no!! "Beckham breaks a toe") and you want to talk about it, put in the News section. If it's non topical sport ( "I'm not sure if I like the colour of England's new Cricket Strip") pop it in the Coffee bar.
It's no biggy really. |

Well if we CAN post about sports then the coffee bar or news board gets threads on football, tennis, F1, cricket, they'll be hard to find later, whereas another row on the homepage listing, Sports Board, will not clutter up the other boards.
This is all a row about nothing. We've only got about 45 regulars here, probably down to 40 now

I'm sorry this has turned a bit personal. I am still against having a sports board but this shouldn't be seen as implying any lack of respect for those who think differently.

I agree with ernie, Ian and Rachel (and admin). If I've seen it, and got anything to add/say on sporting matters I'm happy to do so in the Coffee Bar or News Section or, if anybody is so inclined and it's Ronaldo, Rooney or Drogba up for discussion, in the Theatre Bar.
There is saturation coverage of sport, particularly football, even when they're not playing, in the newspapers and on television, and I always find myself at a loss to introduce or add anything worthwhile.
Besides which, if you were to add a Sports section you'd have to find another presenter's photo, and guess which one's missing at the moment _________________ Ron |

Looking at the poll I'd say there is not enough interest in a separate Sports Board here.
I expect one football thread, one Olympics thread, one F1 thread etc etc is all we need here.
