About time we had one of these.
The venue will be London, possibly for a show, sometime in November/December.
Is anyone interested? Dates can be arranged to fit in with the majority. |

Don't think my domestic circumstances will permit this but I wish all attenders well.

Yes, London's a bit too far south for me I'm afraid. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

It would be lovely to get together. Prefer to avoid December; Nov 5-12 is also out for me. _________________ Ron |

Somewhere fairly central?
Charing Cross Road/Leicester Sq or Tottenham Court Road perhaps?
Was it going to be a pub-ish do? Somewhere which does good food would be good |

Clive,
After the argument about the Sports Board, admin and myself had a fallout so it's just me looking after here and admin is over at the classical R3ok

Well, Clive, attending a London meet-up is unlikely for me so those expressing an interest on this thread could make some arrangements I'm sure.

Hi folks –
I’ve been in correspondence today with a jolly important person at R2 with regard to a visit for a small group of us at some point in the future. A copy of our exchange is below- I’ve removed all e-mail addresses and contact details to protect the innocent.
For those of you interested - details of dates/times etc won't be posted publically- everything will need to be arranged by PM and phone etc.
Hello XXXXXXX,
I hope you are well, and have few moments spare in your busy day to deal with this unsolicited correspondence. I was given your name by (ooh should I name drop?.. ok then) Alex Lester, you won't know him- he works at night but you may have heard the morning cleaners complaining about him, he's very hairy- moults a lot, but I digress. Alex said to me, that you are in charge of lots of important things at Radio 2, and maybe could help me with my cause.
You probably haven't heard of the Radio 2 Preservation Society, and to be frank, I'm not really sure what the "preservation " part really is. It's not like we spend our time restoring the flame retardant varnish on the fire doors in old Radio 2 buildings or clean out the dust from sliders in old discarded mixer desks, no, none of that at all. R2OK, that is our shorter catchier name is an Internet based discussion forum, focused on Radio 2 programmes.
For what seems like forever, there have been rumours on our forum of some of the members organising a visit to Radio 2 -just to say hello and have a look around. Suffice to say that hasn't happened, so I'm taking the bull by the horns myself. Having been in the corporate
world for many years I'm quite familiar with the open plan office environment, complete with gaggles of older chaps by the water cooler discussing the latest pension changes. So my guess is that most of our members would be interested in, and appreciate a tour of the studios- the sharp end, the coalface, where all the real work is done. <Smile>
Getting to the point, I have a few questions as follows:
Do you allow visitors at Radio 2 just for the sake of visiting, and if so, do you do tours of the studios etc for small groups?
My guess would be about half a dozen people would be able to make it on a weekday, and of course we'd provide the names and addresses in advance of those people attending.
I don't have any dates in mind at the moment, just establishing the possibility of a visit is my first step.
Many thanks for your time.
Kindest regards
Rachel H

Hi Rachel
Not really is the first answer.
They do official tours of BH but we aren't geared up for this sort of thing and the studios are actually pretty small and during the daytime mightilly busy.
What sort of forum is this - a moaning minnies style
or an anorak/enthusiast bunch?
I'm always nervous of internet forums which tend to be very negative things.
In office hours it's a no no..but I might be able to fix an hour one evening next year.
Show me the forum site first?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello XXXXXXX,
Gosh thank you, that was quick.
It's more of a fan site I think and is based on the old Radio 2 message-boards in style and presentation.
The website/homepage is located here
http://www.r2ok.co.uk/
and the forum is located here..
http://r2ok.s4.bizhat.com/index.php
It's all very pro Radio 2 - a proper fan site, although there are some aspects of some programmes that attract some negative comments. The moderation on the forum is very good though.
Evening time would be ok ..
Kindest regards

Seems usual stuff!
Okay. See how we do.
Come back to me after November if you would. As I say you would be looking at an hour one evening after 6pm at the most and 6 is rather a lot for the room we have. |

Well I'm not bowled over by the enthusiasm shown by this "VIP"
All sounds rather begrudging to me.
Hope you enjoy the visit, if it happens, which I rather doubt.
Full marks for trying , Rachel! _________________ MiS |

Well I think the chances of anything happening with this are… not good, and, I don’t mean not good like one out of a hundred, I mean not good like one out of a million but the end result warrants the effort, heartache and ultimate disappointment that will undoubtedly ensue.
Ah MiS I didn’t say “VIP”. I said “JIP” which is very different. VIPs turn up, smile wave – get paid by the truck-load, then go home again. JIPs work very hard to make things happen, and without them very little does happen.
I was surprised and pleased to get a reply at all. I am quite naïve though, and have a very childlike view of the world, but at least it’s a happy view. |

Hi Rachel,
I've been to the studio (lucky I know ) so won't take a place of someone who hasn't.
I'd love to meet up with those who do go and if anyone drops out or another place is available I'd be more than happy to come along.

Originally, when this was first suggested-a meeting of us all somewhere, I was really interested etc.
Sadly because of the total lack of enthiuiasm I am not interested anymore preferring to devote my time/energies elsewhere.
Good luck if you can get something sorted/organised. |

I'd like to go, but I think it's highly unlikely I'd be able to get to London. Put me down as a "maybe" but only if all 6 spaces haven't been filled. |
