It was good to hear Andrew (formerly Lord) Phillips on the JY show today talking about the issues surrounding the legality of people carrying knives in public places in order to "protect" themselves in the event of being personally attacked.
I always enjoyed his weekly spot as the Legal Eagle on the old Jimmy Young lunchtime show. Sadly his equivalent today on the Jeremy Vine show is the infuriatingly gobby Martin "Can I plug my website just once more" Lewis. No the same somehow.
Mind you, the presenter's not in the same league as JY either. Pity really. _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

Yes it was good to hear him. It's a while since he's been on and I didn't know that he had stood down as a Lib Dem peer. A solicitor ifriend of ours met him many years ago when he was still in practice.
He and the other one, (Legal Beagle) Bill Thomas were always a good listen and you always learned something from when they were on. Of course in those days it wasn't so instant and I suppose they could research the questions more in advance than the do now. I think he's phoned in to the show a few times from France where he now lives.

There was a bubbly character who came in to the JY Prog to talk about food as well. Can't remember his name - but I always pictured him wearing a bow tie in an eccentric sort of way. That was before studio webcams, of course! _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

That would have been Tony De Angeli. Loved him as well, they could do with him back now with all the food price increases.
