It's ace! Every week! I'm 33 and I love it. My girlfriend loves it and she's not much older than me, and was a Smiths-loving Goth in the 80s.
My favourite host is Ken Bruce, but Aled does a fine job. |

I keep forgetting about it but often listen again during the week. Have just checked tonight's playlist and it should be a good one!
Ian, I came to radio 2 when I was even younger than you but I loved to hear that kind of music slotted in, as it was back then, during the day. I'd go back to R1 from time to time but gradually moved over to R2.

Yes, I get annoyed that things have to be put into their own boxes and never let out. So Ken can play his prog rock all morning, but is not allowed the tunes he presents on a friday night. Yes, there are people who can't cope with hearing different types of music but they're in the minority and I don't see why a public service broadcaster must pander to them... |

Listen out for next week's edition, which marks the centenary of the birth of Sidney Torch, who founded the programme in 1953. No doubt we'll hear some of his compositions and arrangements.

I totally agree with that Ian. It was the diversity that made Radio 2 such a brilliant station. I was going to say 'what it is today' but sadly I'd have to backdate that to about 3-4 years ago.

These days probably even Smooth Radio have a broader playlist. They will sneak in a Louise Armstrong or Tony Bennett track during their daytime programning |

I always remember John Peel starting his 10.00pm slot - after the news which followed FNIMN on the old VHF channel which Radio One then piggibacked for Peel's show.
In his droll Scouser voice he used to welcome listeners to "Friday Night is Boogie Night - presented by your congenial host Dancing Jack Peel". I have a recording of him introducing his show thus..... somewhere! _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. When John Peel followed Alan Freeman's programme he used to say sarcastically 'Thanks for that three hours of Genesis, Yes and ELP!' |

Having exhorted other people to listen to last night's edition, I then went and forgot all about it myself! I'll have a look at the playlist and use Listen Again if I get time this coming week.
