Anyone got any predictions they want to share with fellow message boarders about Radio 2.
I'll start-I think Lesley Douglas will be replaced as Controller during this year. Before anyone asks its just a hunch/feeling. |

And going by what she's done thus far, it's on my wish-list! The only ones of her signings I don't have an irresistable urge to switch off - fast are Mark Radcliffe & Pete Mitchell (when I wake up early enough to hear him that is!) |

I don't have any inside info and am sure that not everything I predict will come to pass but here goes:
R2 weekdays won't change very much. Terry Wogan will be there till 2008.
If we're lucky they might run a Legends of Light Music series in the Friday 7pm slot as a partial reprovision of the soon-to-be-axed Brian Kay programme on R3.
Saturdays: Alas, I think it quite likely that Brian Matthew won't return to SOTS. Johnnie Walker will become its permanent presenter but won't pre-record to cover holidays. These will become the province of guest presenters, which will allow some experimental shows, such as that presented by Suzi Quatro last Saturday.
Sundays: There could be changes from 1pm onwards. Pick of the Pops will move to 1pm and be extended to 2 hours. Dale Winton will continue to present it. Alan Titchmarsh will present a programme which will combine MFY and HBT. Roger Royle will continue and, if there's any justice, will extend to an hour at least, interspersing the present range of hymns and music with features, interviews etc. David Jacobs may well retire and 10-12 could become more like it is during the week.
Any other crystal ball gazers out there?
Ian. |

Alex Lester's show starts later (4am): the Dawn Patrol Slot is subsumed into the Best Time of the Day Show, which broadcasts until 7:30am ( from Mid April)
Steve Wright leaves in a sea of self adulation to join 2CRFM( May) Richard Alinson takes the big show all on his own.........
Chris Evans introduces a new "live on air cooking feature" which ends in disaster (June) when "someone" forgets to turn-off the chip-pan, leaving two studios gutted by fire and the remainder of Broadcasting House tainted with the aroma of burnt pride. Future shows are reduced to using cooking sound effects.....
September - Sarah Kennedy returns from her Christmas Break to discover she's been moved to Radio 3.
October. Listeners organise a riot outside Broadcasting House after Danny Baker is brought in to cover Ken Bruce for a week.
December :- the real Controller throws another fab Christmas Party...

Chris Tarrant is given a one day a week show on Radio 2. ( Johnnie Walkers Sunday Show )
Terry stays for another year.
SOTS is sadly taken over by Johnnie Walker as Brian decides to retire. |

Much as I would welcome Roger Royle having a daily show, I don't think this would fit in with his lifestyle. I get the impression that he travels quite a lot and block records Sunday Half Hour.
But if there is any possibility.....

Dermot O'Leary retires in December to take part in next year's Celebrity Big Brother and then concentrate on hosting reality TV shows. The crowd shout "Who are yer?!" when he goes in....
Russell Brand retires in March but no-one realises until September, when he is replaced by a two-hour Richard Allinson 'Albums' slot. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

There is much rejoicing when a hair is found on Ken Bruce's head but joy is short lived after it blows away when he sneezes.
Tragedy strikes when Chris Evans and Steve Wright fall over each others egos. |

Chips = potatoe... Microwave = hot = chip pan... June is a month coincidently so is October!!!.....and not only that it was a month in 2007, the predicted year...so spot on...... |

2007 MIGHT be the year Sarah Kennedy is FINALLY pensioned off once and for all!
Departures (so far) in 2007
Richard Baker
Sheridan Morley
Brian Kay
Roger Royle
Nick Barraclough
Michael Parkinson
It's nice to know that SOME of the "old toot" on my "to axe" list have been axed!

Wrong. 3 of the above either did not work for Radio 2 [Brian Kay] or left in 2006 [Richard Baker, Sheridan Morley] _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Actually Ernie you're WRONG. ALL of the above worked for Radio 2. Brian Kay was a regular on Friday Night is Music Night. Richard Baker hosted his final show on Radio 2 in January whereas Sheridan Morley did not return after he was dropped at the end of 2006. He was due to host a new show in 2007. He died in February 2007. |

What show did Richard Baker present on Radio 2 in January of 2007?
I'd have said it was way before then.

Richard Baker's FINAL broadcast was on Sunday, 21st January 2007.
Russell Davies took over the 9pm Sunday slot from 28th January.

I've actually written to dear Lesley asking that Sacha Baron Cohen be given the regular brakfast slot when Terry retires. I haven't yet received a reply, but I'll report the outcome when I receive a reply, which I expect to get soon. |

Yes - after he was dropped from Melodies for You. From what I have heard, Sheridan Morley was to host a range of documentaries on Radio 2. He might have deemed this as a bit of a comedown - he didn't even say "farewell" on his final Melodies for You broadcast on Sunday 17/12/06. Nobody knew, at the time, that Alan Titchmarsh was taking over.

Sorry Scott you're wrong there, as I reported that Alan Titchmarsh was taking over on the old R2 board a day or so after I met him in late Nov last year.

Only the message board knew - NOT the overall audience. Listeners were kept in the dark until Alan's arrival in January. It makes me wonder if Sheridan Morley knew he was for the chop or not. |
