|
|
I have started to wonder why Mo Dutta is still on Radio 2. I used to be a huge fan of his, but I have since become tired of his constant prattle, bad jokes and arrogant mannerisms. He comes across as a right smarmy eejit.
What has happened to this guy? Is he trying to fall into the same category as Steve Wright, Chris Evans, Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross and Dermot O'Leary?
I think he should be given the axe. Pete Mitchell would make the perfect replacement. He is so underused on Radio 2 these days.
Sorry Mo, but you are one of many Radio 2 could do without. |

I think Mark Occomore regularly tunes into Mo Dutta's attempts to be the radio equivalent to Harry Hill. |

Mo is the Dark Prince, being primed to take AL's place when he takes his bow. I dabble in a bit of Mo on listen again and it seemed decent enough to me. If it ain't broke.... _________________

Mo Dutta runs his own business (so I am led to believe). I wonder what it is? Perhaps he owns a restaurant? Perhaps his Radio 2 wages make up for his lack of tips? |

Must admit, his prattle has put me off too. However, a very funny cheeky thing happened a couple of weeks ago - he was talking about maybe he should do an afternoon show then played a soundbite of SW "love the show".
Funny. _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

I do have fond memories of Mo Dutta taking the piss out of Richard Baker and Your Hundred Best Tunes a few years ago!
(I mustn't say things like that on here.)

I don't enjoy Mo Dutta but don't like calling for presenters to be axed.
I simply keep R2 off till 8am on Saturdays.

I cannot stomach Brian Matthew. It's about time SOTS was moved to an evening slot. Saturday Radio 2 is supposed to be for the 'younger audience', so why do we have a Flower Power show on at breakfast time? |

That, again, is a matter of opinion. I like and respect Brian Matthew and consider him to be one of the few broadcasters with any semblance of integrity and experience left on R2 - not to mention the fact that he possesses an encyclopaedic knowledge of 1960s music, too, which suits me just fine.
I think the show is just fine where it is. There are plenty of "lift music" stations to retune to as an alternative. SOTS is one of the jewels in what is fast becoming R2's rather tarnished crown so it's best left where it is (in my opinion, of course).
PS: Music made in the era before 1967 can't be described as "Flower Power" music, either. _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

If anything, SOTS should be moved to Sundays where I firmly believe it would fit in nicely amongst Pick of the Pops, Michael Ball and Johnnie Walker.
How about Sundays, 6.30 - 8.30pm in place of the ghastly Alan Titchmarsh/Melodies for You? |

No, that's the time of week when the Saturday workers will be up and about getting ready for their shift in McDonalds or Tesco. |

So, you think it's acceptable to have an old kenk on at 8am playing 60s music?
Why not go the whole hog and reinstate David Jacobs to weekday lunchtimes, 1.00 - 2.00pm?! |

I think it's highly acceptable to have SOTS playing out on Saturday mornings, otherwise I wouldn't have made the posts I did above. _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

And I firmly disagree. In my opinion, Brian Matthew should be moved to Sundays (or another slot during the week). Like I said, Saturdays are supposed to be for the younger listeners.
It's a about time Radio 2 moved with the times and introduced a weekend breakfast show in place of SOTS and Aled Jones' bible bashing show on Sundays. |

The younger listeners get their fun and fwolics during the show that follows at 10.00am. _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

I don't pretend to know what an "old kenk" is, but whatever it is I object to this ageist comment .
Many on here have a lot of respect for Brian Matthew and enjoy his show immensely - me included.
And why on earth is it you think Saturday mornings is for the younger listeners? it's news to me.... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Sorry Briant, but I just don't understand why some people think Brian Matthew is some kind of "radio god". I think he is as dull as dishwater.
Quote: | And why on earth is it you think Saturday mornings is for the younger listeners? it's news to me.... |
Because the overall Saturday schedule is aimed at younger audiences apart from the Jive Bunny rubbish between 8.00 - 10.00am. |

If you're happy to think that, then so be it. But you must consider that my use of such a phrase is in direct response to your imposition of your thoughts about "who is good", "who isn't", "who should be axed" and "who shouldn't". It's all a matter of opinion, and since none of the members of this board, I assume, is in a position of making any direct changes to the way R2 is managed (much as we'd perhaps like to be) then it really doesn't matter, does it not? In the final event, it's all "a matter of opinion". _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

In my opinion R2ok doesn't need Scott Nelson
Nor does it need Dean winding up folk here.
The axe will fall.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This so-called 'old kenk' has just won a Sony Gold Award 'to recognise a career achievement in an outstanding practitioner'. So stop knocking him--he's probably forgotten more about his trade than most of us know.
Hands off SOTS! It's ideal where it is. As has been said, much of Saturday's R2 output is geared towards the younger end of the spectrum so surely we who are of slightly more golden years should be catered for too.
And yes, if they reinstated David Jacobs on a weekday lunchtime show to play his standard repertoire, I for one wouldn't complain.
