Delighted to see/learn that the excellent Richard Allinson will be covering for the smug/arrogant Ken Bruce on Thursday 22nd May 2008.
If only this was a permanent feature.
Good to see that the BBC are at long last utilising the skills of Richard Allinson more regularly following his return from California.
It would be great if the Pop Muppet competition was replaced by the fantastic Wall of Sound.
Allinson rocks. |

It's only while Ken heads to Belgrade for Eurovision to provide his usual, excellent commentary. |

Ahhh PopMaster soon to be renamed as "Can I Just Say A Few Hello's?" It is a bad thing that I'm starting to get some questions correct on the quiz?? _________________

I don't think Ken's smug. He's the only one that I enjoy listening to during the day now. He makes me snigger.

Ken Bruce is the wittiest man on Radio 2. Some quips may go over some people's heads though! On the other hand I think Richard Allinson was perfect non demanding listening on Saturday afternoons before he was dropped. |

Agreed. Ken is smart, sharp and witty, unlike the dreadful Allinson who is constantly arrogant, patronising and awfully smug. |

QS, Arcader,
I agree with you both about Ken, love his quips.

PS He's long overdue an award at the Sony's as J Ross and JV said on the night. _________________ 88 - 91 FM this is Radio 2 from the BBC!

I agree with Mark Mayhew; Richard Allinson would be excellent on the mid-morning slot in place of the dire, smug, patronising Ken Bruce. |

And I heartily disagree with both yourself and Mark Mayhew. Allinson, to my ears, is utterly dreadful as a radio presenter while Ken Bruce is a real professional.
Ain't it great to have an opinion? |

...and Ken was again fantastic on FNIMN last night. He's easily the best presenter of that show. Where's his award? |

Ken is brilliant, he is neither smug or arrogant, he's very witty. Allinson though, well I won't be rude I'll just say he's not my taste. |

I would rather listen to Richard Allinson than anyone on Radio 2, I think he has a very, very sexy voice......

Ken Bruce's is one of the best daytime shows on R2, long may he last.
He even works some Bank Holidays |

Looking forward to hearing Richard stand in for Ken Bruce for w/c 26-05-08.
I do wonder if Richard has the authority to change the format of the show as it seems very long in the tooth to me.
I guess it depends on the producer on duty or does it? |

Well Gary Bones is one of Ken's producers and of course did Richard's Saturday show.
The format doesn't normally change when Ken is away, nor should it IMHO.

What is he going to change the format to ?
Maybe play a song or two then think of a topic for texting drivel, read out a few bits from the papers and surveys, make comments like "we are here until around 12-ish", " I don't understand this quiz but will do my best".., make small talk with the traffic totty, play the whole of a long 'rock' record......now that's not long in the tooth |

If he was allowed to he could change the format easily. Sadly for you it would be nothing like your suggestion. |

Someone reads these boards and must laugh at us all talking about Richard Allinson when he's not on duty at Radio 2.
I'm sure he's not a lost penny and still on board at the BBC. It's good that Richard is able to cover all most every show on the station. Drive time was good last Friday.
I very much doubt anyone will remove Ken Bruce from midmornings. It's rather sad and upsetting reading some nasty messages and trying too remove presenters from Radio 2. Ken is good, witty and very intelligent broadcaster. So is RA and all the broadcasters on the R2. |

Quite. Nothing wrong with the format and Allinson certainly doesn't have the requisite skill to improve on the current format. |

Maybe if Richard was given a show on the network he wouldn't be talked about as much?

listened to the first few minutes and ..
"we are here until around 12" and after the first track "send me texts on having the chop".. and after the next record.."text me on what that record reminds you of"...I hit the off switch
new format ?
PS what was the long record ? |

I noticed that too Helen, but he doesn't take the full 6 weeks off in the Summer. Hasn't he got a special needs child? |
