Looks as though the above named has been axed from April 08. Why?
I really enjoy this show- because its so late I tend to have to listen to it again via the Listen Again feature. Its only on for 30 minutes a week-it seems mean spirited to axe it.
Sounds of the 60's remains-Why?-Brian Matthew must have played every song from the 60's ten times over-surely this show is long past its sell by date and should be replaced by a 2 hour show of 70's records.

Keep SOTS where it is - but have your suggestion of a 70s show on in place of Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs, which has definitely passed it's sell by date.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I saw this comment on the R2 boards but haven't heard or read anything about it, officially. It's also down on the Radio Times website (which I know can be wrong) as being broadcast on the 3/4th April.
I will be sending an official complaint if it does disappear!

I've always fancied Steve Wright to do an 80's show. It would be perfect since he is still living the decade. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I love SOTS (what, you hadn't noticed?) and reject any idea that it's past its sell-by date but agree that Sounds of the Seventies is being treated very shabbily. What about putting it on from 10 till 11am on a Saturday for a period and seeing how this goes--surely two hours of Mr Ross would be enough.

Two hours of Mr Ross is more than enough for me. I think there is enough mileage and variety in the 1970s music for a two hour show, just like SOT60s has. Does Brand deserve two hours for his 'Show'? Shave an hour off that to fit it in. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Could R2 have a ten minute long show? (It would still be nine minutes and 59 seconds too long.) _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I've long said that Sounds of the 70s is a pointless show, and I for one won't miss it at all. |

How can it be pointless? after all, the 70s was voted the best decade for music... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Well, putting my own tastes aside (there's no sodding way the 70s was the best decade for music) he only plays the same records that get played in most of the daytime. What's the point of that? |

I must admit, I don't hear the show but if that's the case, I can see your point.
I do think a 70s show is needed though - but at a better time, ie daytime.
I'd have voted for the 60s on the "best decade" caper, but even I was swayed by the evidence for the 70s.... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

For me it would be a very close call between the 1960s & 70s. Both were equally diverse and important in their own way and I certainly believe the 1970s deserves more than the miserly ½ hour slot it's always had, and that's not to begrudge the two hours that Sounds Of The 60s gets. I don't agree that Sounds Of The 70s plays all the same stuff that you hear on daytime R2 anymore than SOT60s does. SOT70s certainly shouldn't be axed, but then Lesley Douglas is in the mood to alienate and annoy her audiences at the moment. Consequently nothing she does would surprise me any more, however outrageous. Indeed it seems that the more outrage it creates, the better she seems to like it. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Even if it's not exactly the same records as daytime, it's pretty much the same sort of music - and most of that is Steve Harley's personal taste.
But having all the records in a row sound the same seems to be the way of things on Radio nowadays |
