I have to say I'm getting sick to death of adverts for the Evans/Brand/Wogan/Vine/Wright shows. The Vine advert really annoys me-does he think we are all thick. Does he think that people don't know what his show is about when he says "Ahhh that what's it about".
All these adverts are unnecessary. When I'm listening to a programme I would like to hear it all the way through without several intrusive trails being thrown in, otherwise I might as well as listen to commercial radio. |

Mark do you like anything about Radio 2? The shows have to be promoted too hear what is coming up. It's about getting listeners to tune in. |

Yes Mark, I'm with you on this as well as the Richard Allinson issue. It fair ticks me off when a track (particularly an interesting / rarely heard track) gets the 'Steve Wright treatment' because the powers-that-be are in such a hurry to play that trailer we've heard a thousand times already - even more annoying if it's an Evans one It should never be allowed to happen on shows like Sounds Of The 60s, but it has crept in, even on SOT 70s, usually the last track which just goes straight on into Janice Long's show, or is there a news bulletin before Janice? Please producers, sort this out! Now we're getting those for 6 music's least popular son - George Lamb. The furore about him is still going strong on the 6 music boards! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Yes Mark I agree 100%, if I want to hear Evans, Brand, Wogan, Wright or Vine I can tune in, why oh why must I have to listen to the irritating voice over trailers, they drive me mad. Let the Evans fans have him 5 - 7, that way I can avoid him! along with Brand and O' Bleary!

You picked this one up from the POV board word for word Mark.

We used to have Classic FM on quite a bit but have pared it well back, largely because of the repetitive ads.
R2 isn't too bad by comparison.

With the exception of Brand, I can't see why any of the above shows actually require a trailer, unless there's something really, really, really special happening on a particular day to promote. After all, these are the staples of R2. I can understand why Brand's show would be advertised, since it no doubt needs a boost in the ratings department - and trailers for one-offs such as documentaries would be perfectly acceptable (though not every other hour). _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

They've only stepped up the frequency since the last set of listening figures I'd say. Maybe the daytime show figures are down all round?

we may never know since Rajar botched the figures for Q4 and have to rerun them!
But if daytime is down its because its sounding a bit tired. Possibly because the music is too repeatative. And maybe the presenters too!
Advertising cant help you if the product isnt right. Maybe the Beeb should watch its own series on advertising running on BBC4 at the moment if they need to learn that basic rule. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I suspect the reason for the sudden saturation trailering of Lamb's 6 music show on R2 (as well as 6 music itself) is a desperate attempt to try and drum up listenership for his show. Out of fairness, I listened to the trailer at first but, I can now see what the furore over on the 6 music message boards (& elsewhere on the web) is all about. It certainly won't persuade me to desert Ken Bruce and Jeremy Vine for him, would you? Honestly, he sounds sub-wright. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

That Lamb sounds terrible. But he seems to stick with policy that if a presenter is controversial/useless just promote, promote, promote as if they're really popular. It amazes me that Brand and (until recently) O'Leary get loads of trailers every week - surely if they're any good, the audience will be listening every week anyway? |

I have to agree with the trailers thing. Aren't we, as Radio 2 listeners, old enough to make up our own minds about which shows we want to listen to?
I know that Chris Evans comes on at 5:05pm which is about time the CD button gets hit in my car. I've tried listening to the show - the music can be quite good but the man is a hyperactive fool and I can't bear to listen so to have the "best bits" chucked at me throughout the dayis just painful.
Why is Lesley Douglas trying to turn Radio 2 into Radio 1? Haven't we already got one of those? |

The worst ad on R2 at the moment is for Eastenders
and I wish JV would not come on at 11:30am every day |

Well considering that Jimmy Young did the same for at least 10 years, I doubt that it's about to change...........

Yes, unfortunately and R2 is sounding more and more like those moronic commercial programmes which keep stopping to extol some product or other. Why can't we have programmes that play good music and those where the half-wits yatter to their heart's content. That way the listener could decide which he wanted to listen to.

I'd like more of the former & much less of the latter, but sadly this isn't the kind of station that Lesley Douglas wants us to have. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Radio 3 is doing the same too. The breakfast show trails the drivetime show, the and just before the afternoon concert they tell you what's 'coming up' in the evening concert.
And Rob Cowan has an annoying habit during his own show to say things like "coming up later in the show I'll be playing...... but first here's......" blah blah. I like to NOT know what's coming up |

Wogan, Wright, Evans and Brands trailers are for the Podcasts this is why they trail them. It's so people can download the latest. It's a new thing for Radio 2 in the last year so they need to promote this. |

Well if the news has been dumbed down it would follow that a news programme will also be............
