Interesting article in today's Sunday Times. Aled Jones seems to be building his name up!
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article3448168.ece
Quote: | There is a soft-centred, spiritual-lite show on Radio 2 today called Good Morning Sunday. Or, rather, there was, for it has now been renamed Aled Jones with Good Morning Sunday. Melodies for You, another long-running programme on the same network, has also changed its name, and is now called Alan Titchmarsh. Radio 3 used to spurn such vulgarity, but it, too, has partly succumbed. Thus, the weekday breakfast slot, which used to be Morning Concert, then On Air, is now Sara Mohr-Pietsch. You would think a woman with such a distinctive name, and such a luscious, peachy voice, would need no further elevation, but there we are.
Why the change on Britain’s most popular radio station, which has boosted the boy from Bangor yet further? Those who love modish claptrap should study the explanation given to the BBC’s weekly newspaper, Ariel, by Christine Morgan, executive producer of the radio output of the Religion and Ethics department: “I’m thrilled because it feels a natural move. Now Aled can really own the programme. You want your most recognised name upfront.” |

Aled appeared at Guildford Cathedral where my neice is a chorister. Apparently his over inflated ego did not endear him to the Choir. _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

Indeed. If you want to apportion blame for it all you probably have to go back to the days of the offshore pirates.
Aled is OK as a light Sunday morning presenter - if you want something more deep and meaningful you go to church or wherever. He is not a total yes-man (he had a little dig at the way Songs of Praise is shunted around to accommodate other programmes). And he plays a nice and varied selection of music, as represented by the double CD which has just been issued, available in all the usual outlets, and which is definitely a cut above the average compilation. _________________ Ron |
