The Rajars will are out this week. On Wednesdays show Chris Evans mentioned them . He knows what the figures are as the stations get them well in advance. He was trying to play a game with the listeners? I think they are fine for Drivetime, as well as for Radio 2? |

No not really. All they are doing is sticking two fingers up at each other. When they are at big bashes they are drinking together. It's a choice of what you enjoy. It's like a supermarket you shop at one than the other one.. |

To re-phrase a famous orator:
'Ask not what your listeners want to hear, but tell them that you know what's best for them.'
Thanks but no thanks, say a quarter of a million former Radio 2 listeners. |

I see that Evans is still going up. His audience of 5.11 million is 280,000 up on the same period last year.

So the Evening changes may not be working. People tryed out Russell Brand and decided to switch off. I would with some of the antics been going on.
Maybe Mark Radcliffe covering for Steve Wright isn't working. Aled Jones for Sarah Kennedy and we have had Richard Hammond for Wogan too?
So basically Lesley Douglas needs to go back to the good old days and have the same people back covering?
Keep changing around things is going to upset the listeners. |

I think Brand and the evening shows would have little or no overall impact.
The real problem is that daytime is getting a bit stale & samey. They probably need to think about changes. Maybe move Ken Bruce to earlies, cut back on Steve Wright and get somebody fresh on during daytime. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Wasn't todays show a repeat of the show 1st broadcast on February 5th, 1989? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I did a Google of "Steve Wright" to find his Rajar results but I seem to be getting a lot of stories about Ipswich. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Congratulations to him, I say through gritted teeth. Not quite near JW's record audience, but pretty damn close if I'm not mistaken. Surely we're building up to an inevitable Moyles vs Evans on mornings? That will be interesting!
The slight dip for radio2 is no major worry, bearing in mind many of the evening changes haven't even been around for a year yet - assuming the evening schedule is the problem. |

I agree it seems like daytime is failing, but I would say it's not entirely the fault of the presenters - they need to freshen up the playlist and stop playing the same 5 new songs over and over all day for months. |

I have to agree with Ian, the main problem is the music.
You can change presenters as much as you want but if they keep playing the same 5 records over and over again it won't attract any lost listeners back.
I've said this before on another thread but why don't the powers that be take a listen to tracks of my years or the non stop oldies and realise people like different types of music.
The playlist at the moment is so narrow and repetitive during daytime that they are alienating a massive amount of people. |

The music is getting worse, and it's not just that I'm getting older.
It would seem that the 'yoof' they have been trying to attract with the playlist have, if they ever came over to R2, gone back to R1.
It's a bit like what Marks and Spencer did a few years ago - try to appeal to someone who wouldn't normally be seen dead in the place anyway. Those who would are left with very little that is suitable.
Listen out Lesley "IT'S NOT WORKING", just like we keep trying to tell you!

I can't imagine many yoofs I know listening to most of R2.
The music is very limited, either stuff off the playlist and even the oldies are very limited , heard come and make me smile again this morning and it must be time soon for Sweet home alabama. |

Agreed.
On the matter of music played, the only people that dare (and are able to) play anything different are Bob Harris and Radcliffe & Maconie on their respective evening programmes. Still, at least Bob managed to squeeze in some good tracks when he was sitting in for Evans after Christmas. |

Apparently Rajar got their figures wrong for Q4 and are going to re-issue. The effect on the nationals should be minimal but some local stations figures could change quite a bit.
Red faces all round at Rajar. With any luck it will hasten the demise of the diaries to be replaced by something a bit more 20th century _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

It's really funny, I've been away from the board for sooo long, I'd forgotten what a talking point the Rajar figure are
I've also hardly listened to R2 at all over the 8 months or so, so I guess I've had a direct impact on the figures lol.
I admit, I always listen in to Paul Jones, I love the blues 'they tell my story' lol. Sure there's a song in that somewhere.
I did tune in to SW quite a bit when i was on my motorway journeys, but that was more to catch the travel news. These days I'm catching up on some of my old CDs and trying to tune in at the right time for travel news before going back to my CDs.
For my own personal opinion, I simply got board or R2. The music on offer is certaintly not what it was either. Lets have a good old shake up _________________ Mig |
