Praise comes from all corners of the media. This week, check out the New Statesman's review of Stuart Maconie's shows on 2 and 6 music. Couldn't agree more with the reviewer:-
'Commercial DJs are the worst culprits, though things brighten up considerably on National Express journeys when the driver puts on Heart FM and you hear the Scissor Sisters three times in two hours. None can compare with the music-devouring enthusiasm of Stuart Maconie, surely the BBC's hardest-working man, who, with Mark Radcliffe, has transformed Radio 2's 8pm-10pm slot on Mondays to Thursdays into a showcase for tunes of quality and distinction.'

I suppose off air Stuart is doing is research? A lot of Commercial Radio DJs are on 6 days week and up early too, but a lot of it is in front of them. |

......but not the hardest working in radio.
That honour surely goes to Richard Allinson. |

Look at Richard's work schedule this year already.
A week and a half fronting the RAdio 2 breakfast show, A Record Producers Show for Radio 2, 2 Saturday lunchtime shows for BBC Radio Oxford, a week of mid morning shows on BFBS Radio 2, and a Sunday upcoming show covering for Johnnie Walker.
Quite a heavy workload for 2008 so far I think. |

BBC Oxford / York shows are mostly pre - recorded in the week? I thought he used to pre - record some of the BFBS shows? If not then Live 5 Days a week for 2 hours on air. He's not on Radio 2 at present during the week. The Sunday show would be mostly prepared for him and a lot of the music he gets ready at home I would think or comes to the station to have meeting about show? Record Producers is recorded well in advance.. Next one Easter Bank Holiday.. He gets a good pay for what he does.. Salary I should say) |

I think Steve Wright works hard and always saying he's up early in the mornings to get ready for a lot of stuff for the shows. He's announcing now a lot of pre -recorded interviews are done in the mornings or previous..
I suppose they all have there far share of work loads.. |

Mark O-You are incorrect on a couple of points.
Richard's daily BFBS Radio 2 shows are all live-then have been 1 or 2 isolated occasions when they have been pre-recorded- eg Xmas shows.
The Saturday lunchtime shows on BBC Radio Oxford are made/recorded earlier on the Saturday morning of the day in question- approx between 10.30am-12.30pm |

A lot of it is in front of them, on the computer!
Stuart's also doing that BBC4 Best Decades stuff, but it appears no one can quite top Richard Allinson! |

One of those round things
What the hell is the point of arguing about the BBC staff working so many hours per day or week. Who gives a S&&T, For god sake they look lazy too me and don't know what a real days work is. How about they change jobs for those who work in the Armed forces or NHS staff? They get less pay and work really hard, whilst these lot get huge amounts of money from us.. I'm not being horrid, but it's pathetic people writing about who works hard and who doesn't..
Live in the real world as Mark M said about Terry Wogans tyre on his car this week ..

I think you'll find some of the hardest working people at the BBC are the correspondents and technical staff working in dangerous parts of the world. You simply can't compare the work of an overpaid presenter sitting in a snug warm studio to the kind of work these guys do, for much less money I hasten to add. |

Perhaps the discussion was going off the original point, but still, Stuart deserves the praise, and is a hard worker. It has been argued elsewhere about the hard working reporters etc at the BBC, which begs the question what price we place on enetertainment (and again, here's looking at you, Mr.Ross!) Nevertheless, Stuart deliveres the goods across a variety of output for the Beeb, and is a trusted, reliable broadcaster. |

Oh dear, yet another potentially decent thread well and truly derailed by the Allinson lovers ..........
Anyhow, major kudos to Stuart Maconie for being a damn good DJ without having to resort to being smug, smarmy, sarcastic and generally irritating (unlike a certain Allinson fellow ......... ). |

And clearly you have a problem with anyone daring to criticise your beloved Ally.
Would you credit it but years ago I used to really enjoy listening to Richard on the radio - then he became a bit more popular and the already present smarmy smugness was ratched up a few notches. I then woke up, smelled the roses and dropped him like a hot potatoe.
I'll stick to excellent, decent presenters such as Bob Harris, Stuart Maconie, Steve Lamacq to name a very few (of a VERY few). Thanks anyhow. |
