To paraphrase Theo on Dragons' Den, I would rather have passed a kidney stone than gone to the Boxing Day sales.
It's been our only day of the Christmas/New Year break without visitors so we had a long walk in our glorious Tyne Valley and fitted in a visit to a riverside pub at lunchtime.
Would anyone own up to having a retail experience today?
Ian. |

Did both. An hour of the sales in the morning to buy some essentials and then a long walk in the afternoon. The sales were bedlam, but if you get in, buy what you want and dont hang around you can survive. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Crikey no, I can do without a lot of people pushing and shoving at the best of times but at this time of year it's much worse.
I might do a bit of bargain hunting on the internet though. |

Great everyone panics before Christmas, and then rushs to the shops after. I think they should all shut down for two days like some of the Railways do?
Give us a break. It's bad enough watching all the sofa adverts on the TV ( Stuart Maconie ) |

I did go into town this afternoon but I didn't stay. I'd spotted a DVD box set of the complete One Foot In The Grave reduced to £38 in HMV at the start of the week and as I had received a HMV gift voucher for £20 I decided to buy it. So it was straight in, walk from the car to HMV buy the DVDs and straight back to the car. |

I went to the Chelsea versus Aston villa match at lunchtime today.
En route I popped into a couple of music shops in Chelsea to check out the sales bargains.
Both shops I went into were empty.
I also walked the whole length of the Kings Road after the match from Stamford Bridge to Sloane Square tube-the shops were close to empty. |

Passed a kidney stone once - don't ever care to repeat the experience....

Well, Amazon have dropped the price of the Canon 40D digital SLR body by £40 so I think I'll be ordering one before the end of the month (Canon are giving £50 cash back on top of this).
Some of the outdoor shops have some good reductions on hiking and trekking gear, even on the likes of top brand names such as Merrell and Berghaus, so no doubt I'll be splashing out on approach shoes and jackets shortly too. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Ok then, I'll admit that I went to the co-op and bought some cocktail sticks this morning, last of the big spenders I am. |

Well, from the comfort of my sofa I bought a fridge freezer and a food processor in the sales. The virtual sales that is, online. _________________ Over the hill they came....the greatest Army in the World.....The Tartan Army |

Not ban it, but give everyone a rest. The shops are open the rest of the year and Sales happen nearly all year round. |

I saw one Sofa similar to the one which you can buy at Argos advertised on TV.. Why oh why are furniture stores so fashionable these days, they need Sales all year round? |

I went to collect my benefit on the 27th, and then today I went into Curry's for a digital TV which I'm in the process of fixing up. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

As DFS say they only run 3 sales each year.
The 1st runs from Jan-March, the 2nd from April- August and the 3rd from Sept - December.
Seriously I think you will find that the home furniture business is cut-throat competitive and that is why they need to do so much promotion & marketing. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
