Pleased as I was to hear Oxygene again, I nonetheless found Jean-Michel Jarre and Anita Dobson to be two of the most tedious contestants yet. They seemed to know nothing about almost anything, despite a ridiculous amount of prompting.
Wouldn't it be better to rest Popmasters pending resolution of the phone-in quiz issue rather than let it limp along like this?

I just wish that the BBC's DG would have the guts to stand up and say "Enough's enough" and get on with proper programming again without worrying about what some stupid government culture secretary has to say.
I've never seen a BBC so frightened of regulator and government. It wouldn't have happened in Hugh Carlton-Greene's day - he would have told them where to get off! |

'Popmaster' this morning was embarrassing. Why bother, except to advertise the contestants latest commercial ventures, presumably. |

Much as I enjoy 'celeb Popmaster', Dobson and Jarre were cringe-worthy. Easily the dullest couple of contestants to have been on it of late - there was no spark, almost zero 'banter' and it sounded like they would both have rather been elsewhere instead of doing a bit of free self promotion. |

Yeah, they were useless. Sometimes the 'celebrity' format is fun, but not this morning. It's bad enough being unable to name "There's No-one Quite Like Grandma" and Shawadywaddy but then claiming you've never heard of them ever is ridiculous. |

I think if they can't operate Popmaster to the format we're familiar with they should suspend it until they can. I didn't hear this morning's edition, but it sounds like it was best avoided anyhow and seems to be nothing but filler. |

Well, as mentioned above, I love celeb popmaster - it usually works very well and is hugely entertaining with some excellent guests. It's just that today's pair really let the side down. |

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks I must be ancient when the guests have never heard of 60s and 70s bands!
I think some pretend not to know the older tracks just to appear cool? I'm sure Steve Wright does this a lot in an attempt to disguise his age!
It's ok though, he's still great. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Got to have the occasional duffer to make all the others sound good, which they generally have been.
I agree it's high time that The DG should put a stop to all this hand-wringing and vacillation and get back to normal. Just underlines the difference between the one organisation which has to kow-tow to politicians, who seem to consider that the faux-naming of a cat amounts to treason, and the other one run along normal commercial lines, which can blithely "draw a line under" £2M worth of customers' wasted votes. _________________ Ron |

When are we going to get this excrutiatingly painful 'celebrity popmasters' taken off, they seem to know nothing ?
How can we have an auction that involves £100,000s on air but not a simple competition to win a cheap radio ? |

Yes, it's somewhat ironic isn't it? It seems that they're entrusted with being "honest" about the winner of an auction yesterday in which somebody reportedly bid £250,000 for a personal appearance by Katie Melua (unless I heard it wrongly) in support of CIN in Wogan's show, but they can't be trusted with ensuring that the person who enters Popmaster is who the person claims to be.
Utterly barmy! |

When are the real people coming back? Or are they waiting to see if they have F***** up CIN?

Before we all get carried away with how wonderful Pop Master was when the general public called in by phone...
- We used to get members of the public who knew nothing, too.
- Some members of the public couldn't banter for toffee, making Ken really struggle.
- Members of the public sometimes used to get nervous and "dry" - the celebs rarely have this problem.
Frankly, not knowing how it will turn out is half the charm of Pop Master, both with celebs and the public. Some days make be chuckle, others laugh out loud, some make me want to hide under the chair I'm cringing so much. But the point it that it *does* create a reaction.
And I would hate to lose the smug feeling I get when I know an answer the contestant doesn't. I then, of course, ignore all instances of my ignorance...

Please register your vote for todays entrants- Boyz 2 Men....
Vote 1 if you thought they were cheeky, entertaining transatlantic chappies.
Vote 2 if you thought they were irritating, gobby Yank divots.
I vote a resounding 2! _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

I heard most of it and I'm leaning to voting 1 they made me laugh a few times but.. I think questions were a little unfair being mostly about British acts... some pretty minor at that.
At least they had some life in them. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

An easy '1' from me too - very funny, made me laugh a fair bit. And kudos to Ken for managing to keep the quiz going when it could easily have fallen apart! |

Boys 2 Men were dire! It got me when they were joking about going to school with Mike Oldfield when they wouldn't know him from Adam.
I suspect a presenting job on Channel 4's Freshly Squeezed awaits these oiks.
Sam Brown and Jo Critchley were better the Thursday after. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.
