Your sense of moral outrage when temporarily AWOL at that moment.
I wonder why. |
There's quite a simple answer, actually: I didn't hear it. I rarely listen to radio 2 at that time now, since Evans has forced me out of the habit.

Yeah right. "Toilet seats". High standard network radio, for sure. |

I'll bet you that Radio 4 has done features on them as well in the recent past.

At least it would be a "feature" designed for grown-up listeing and worth listening to for its intelligent and considered style. It doesn't sound much like Evans treatment of the same subject quite managed the intellectual heights as appealing to people over the age of 12.

My point precisely. John Peel's sardonic wit versus Evans' childishness. QED. |

Back tracking now I see.
So you first said it wasnt a fit subject for national radio.
But now you have changed your mind.
And now you are trying to compare it to another broadcast you havent heard.
You've dug a nice hole for yourself.

How on earth do you work that out? Radio 4 by its very nature would never patronise its listeners - whereas Evans does by his very style.
Let me remind you of Markey's comment:
mark occomore wrote: | So what do you like sitting on a plastic or Wooden seat and what colour roll do you use? |
That really says enough for me. Dear oh dear.
gfloyd wrote: | So you first said it wasnt a fit subject for national radio. |
I said Evans' treatment of this (as described by Markio) is hardly worthy of network radio - and I also said that this would even rank low on the worst local radio. The key is "Evans" here, not the subject. I expect this from Evans.
gfloyd wrote: | But now you have changed your mind. |
I think you're getting a little bit confused.
gfloyd wrote: | And now you are trying to compare it to another broadcast you havent heard. |
I'm making informed assumptions. I assume that John Peel's treatment would have had a clever, intellectually-stimulating twist. I assume that Evans will just be childish. As he very often is - and that's why I cannot bear to listen to the bloke.
gfloyd wrote: | You've dug a nice hole for yourself. |
Looks to me like you're doing the digging. Come hell or high water you'll defend your ginger-topped hero regardless of the depths to which he'll stoop to cling to his audience - however low their IQ.
Wake up!

And, for drivetime, at great expense to all licence-fee payers - regardless of the depths to which presenters will stoop in the name of national network entertainment. |

Read my original reply to Mark, Erio. For heaven's sake! What did I write? I wrote "Please tell me this is not true.....". Now what does that tell you?
let me explain in words of very few syllables: it tells you that even though I already have a very low estimation of Evans as a radio broadcaster, I'm not in the least surprised to find that he has to stoop to such items in his pathetic radio show. Asking listeners wht colour bog roll they have? That's utterly, utterly childish - and everything I expect from him.
I don't HAVE to listen to his pathetic show - marco's revelation is enough to convince me that it's worth avoiding. And believe me I will.
You've really got Evansitis bad! My recommendation is get it seen to. |

Over 5 million don't think so. Also Lesley Douglas dosn't. OK, we now know you don't enjoy him, so don't take this away from others. |

What on earth are on about, Marko? How can anyone "take away from others" a personal view? I need remind you what this little discussion is about, since you've obviously forgotten one of your own posts in which you remind of the depths of mediocrity to which your hero will stoop in the name of satisfying the entertainment needs of so-called millions:
firewirefred wrote: | mark occomore wrote: | Fantastic show. I like the feature this evening ( Monday ) talking to the man about Toilets.. |
Fantastic show? Blimey........................ It sounds absolutely rivetting.
mark occomore wrote: | So what do you like sitting on a plastic or Wooden seat and what colour roll do you use? |
Tell me you're joking, Mark. Please. Has network radio come to this? The worst of local radio on a national level - only much worse, by the sound of it.
No - I didn't listen to it, before you ask. I had much better things to be doing, like poking both eyes with a sharp stick, for instance. |
Asking people to phone in to tell O Ginger One what colour bog roll they use is quality primetime network radio broadcasting? That's what we're talking about. So Lesley Douglas still likes him - along with "5m" others? She's a fool then, and you're all suckers. |

Having admitted that you have not listened to the show, YOU have no way of knowing whether that statement is true. In fact it is FALSE.
Why dont you take your repeatitive spam to the gripes section & stop hijacking this thread. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Ignoring your trolling comments, since you have admitted that it t is good enough for Radio 4 then what is the problem with a similar feature on Radio 2? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

You're either ignoring my previous comments or things aren't quite sinking in. My comment was about "treatment". John Peel's delivery on Home Truths and elsewhere was always, perceptive, laconic, self-depracating and intelligent. Chris Evans is just childish and utterly desperate for attention. And he shouts in an annoying voice.
That was (and is) my point. The fact that he was supposedly asking people to phone in telling him what colour bog roll they use doesn't surprise me in the least - it's exactly the "standard" of broadcasting I'd expect from him, and indicative of the lowering of standards on Radio 2.
If you're happy with that, then good for you. Does it inspire me to listen to the fool? It certainly does not. |

You cant possibly discuss the treatment of anything without having heard the item. To suggest anything else is just utter nonsense.
Perhaps you & Scott should have a special section where you can discuss the contents of radio shows you havent heard and will never listen to? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I can discuss my lack of surprise at the topics that Evans selects for his "show" - and I can comment on my lack of inclination in listening to his horrible voice. That's easy.
gfloyd wrote: | Perhaps you & Scott should have a special section where you can discuss the contents of radio shows you havent heard and will never listen to? |
I'm commenting on the broadcaster, not the show - and of the low standards of "entertainment" I have come to expect from said broadcaster. On the rare occasion that I do hear him ("hear" rather than "listen" you understand) I'm never disappointed. It is always unbearable.
The fact that he did a piece on toilet seats and toilet roll surprises me not one bit. I don't need to listen to him - MarkO's account was enough to put me off even more. |

Ken Bruce uses it. I have seen Bob Harris on the webcam using the same studio. |

Lots of people use the same studio. Radio 2 has two main self-op studios (in addition to production studios) which alternate with each live on-air job. |
