|

Have been watching this on C4 this evening. Can't believe that not a single place in the North of England was judged worthy of inclusion in the Best 20 list. Whatever happened to all the positive things that were being said about Alnwick not so long ago?
The nominated best was Edinburgh and at the other end of the scale was Middlesbrough.
Going by an admittedly subjective and possibly dated snapshot, I'd rather live in Middlesbrough than Edinburgh any day of the week.
Edinburgh--snobbish, disaster to get round because of ineffective public transport policy (where are its Metro or suburban stations?), where on earth do you park and no decent country in the vicinity.
Middlesbrough--not without its issues by any means but trying to deal with them, close to splendid North York Moors and Cleveland Hills, lovely people.
Any views, especially from inhabitants of either place?

Crime and poor health seems to be the main problem in the North East according to the show. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Of course it matters. To the value of your property if you live there if nothing else. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

There's little that almost everybody supposedly affected can do about it, so I don't think programmes like this matter a jot. That's life. |

Why is it? People live where they live. Why do they need to be reminded by a TV programme whether it's good or bad? |

Because people do move houses from time to time. Regeneration happens when people spot an up and coming area and start to move into it. The opposite happens when an area is on the slide.
The local authority can influence things by dealing with the negative issues affecting the area. Thats why we have elections. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
