Great memories of October 1971.
Happy memories of listening To Radio Luxembourg at night with :
Tony Prince
Bob Stewart
Mark Wesley
Dave Christian
Kid Jensen.
Radio 1 i caught in bits during the day but FAB 208 was always my first choice.

Me too. Radio 1 was just awful for its first 5 years or so. We had to wait until 1974 for Radio Caroline to return to the airwaves, too. |

Haven't heard this for a few weeks. Are they featuring two years a week now? If so, how does this work in practice?

It means they leave out about a third of each week's Top Twenty. OK if you don't mind missing out on the likes of Jethro Tull, Englebert Humperdinck, The Supremes... _________________ Ron |

This sounds like a retrograde step. I think it was fine as it was, as long as there was a fair spread of years.

It probably means it will go back to what it was when it was a Saturday show. It featured two charts then. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

if they're going to go back to the "two charts" format, I think it's important that they leave the top 10s untouched. Most of the joy of any chart programme is that it's programmed by the public spending their money, not by a producer. While the rest of a chart needs to be trimmed for time, the most popular records of the day should be left untouched.

I've always thought the beauty of that show was the rarities that get played. If some tracks do have to be left out, then make it the ones that get played all the time on the other shows and concentrate on what, maybe hasn't been heard in years. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Omitted from this week's two Top 20s -
19th October 1971
20. Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast - Daniel Boone
18. You Don't Have To Be In The Army - Mungo Jerry
17. I Believe (In Love) - Hot Chocolate
16. Nathan Jones - Supremes
15. Another Time Another Place - Engelbert Humperdinck
11. Life Is A Long Song - Jethro Tull
8. Tap Turns On The Water - CCS
6. For All We Know - Shirley Bassey
5. Did You Ever - Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood
12th October 1991
20. What Can You Do For Me - Utah Saints
19. Get Ready For This - 2 Unlimited
18. Jacky - Marc Almond
17. Such A Good Feeling - Brothers In Rhythm
16. Something Got Me Started - Simply Red
15. Such A Feeling - Bizarre Inc
12. Sunshine On A Rainy Day - Zoe
10. Peace - Sabrina Johnson
9. I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred
7. Everybody's Free (To Feel Good) - Rozalla
5. Love To Hate You - Erasure
4. Let's Talk About Sex - Salt N Pepa
So, actually, less than half the Top 20s combined were played. Whether it's my age or the quality of the records in the 1991 chart I wouldn't like to say but I can't remember half of those in it, played or unplayed! But it would have been nice to have heard them all just the same. _________________ Ron |

I'm surprised that Dale missed out a Shirley Bassey song. However I'm not surprised that Jethro Tull and CCS Got the elbow. They were two songs that bucked the trend of banality in the chart. _________________ Geddon
