What happened to the Indian summer that we were getting this week?
Yesterday it poured down for a good bit of the day and today it's dark, dreary and cold.
So much for the Met Office computers. We might as well go back to seaweed!
I'll come on and apologise if the heatwave starts later in the week.

Last Friday was like a summer's day (where I was, anyway) - clear blue sky and sunshine all day. Saturday a complete grey-out. Monday morning was again promising, until I got to Birmingham on my way home. Today Notts is still and grey but certainly not cold.
I think, because the winds from anywhere but the North are still warm, and the seas around the UK also, if the cloud disperses then it should be "Indian Summer" weather.
I note that it's still quite mild in Scandinavia and Russia, and across on the east coast of Canada/USA, so winter's still a little way off yet. _________________ Ron |

It was down my way, gradually going down hill as the weekend progressed. On the subject of winds. The cold directions are from North & East. The warmest winds are from South & West. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

You'll be pleased to know that here on the Costa Blanca we have had a thunderstorm and torrential downpour which started yesterday morning and has continued non-stop, right through last night and today. We scarcely got a wink of sleep. The pool has overflowed into the garden, we have a small river running continually past our gate, and the roads into town are littered with bricks, rubble and gravel that has been washed down from the higher levels.
We have had at least twenty power cuts since yesterday morning, some lasting only minutes, others lasting three hours or more. My husband is complaining that Spain is a third world nation masquerading as a member of the European Union.
But never mind, the sun will come out soon, they say. |

Well, it's been a bit warmer since I last posted but it's stayed grey and dreary throughout. So--I'll ask again--where's the Indian summer?

Last few days here have been smashing, just a pity the nights are drawing in so quickly now, cause I have spent the daylight hours working and it gets dark too early to enjoy being out on me bike.

The continental climate of inland Europe and Russia means that East winds in summer/autumn can be very warm, though they're always tempered by having to cross the North Sea. In winter they're bitterly cold.
Interestingly, and in time for England's game in Moscow tomorrow night, I see they've just had their first snowfall of the season there.
Lovely bright and clear morning here so far; rain forecast for later and overnight frosts for the rest of the week. Winter draws on... _________________ Ron |
