I left Radio 2 on this morning after SOTS and had the misfortune to Jonathan Ross. He and his cackling sidekick were discussing putting dog excrement down the toilet. Is it like this every week? Another reason why Radio 2 is going 'down the pan' thanks to Lesley Douglas' vision of what the listeners want. |

Hello Briant - couldn't tell you if it's like that every week as I stopped listening on Saturday mornings a long time ago. Thanks for supplying another reason why I should continue with this policy! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Ernie, Lesley Douglas must have helped to get Ross keep his programme having been in charge for the past several years along with signing up Russell Brand, Chris Evans, Dermot O'Leary and Davina McCall? That's why I say her policies are making many people switch off from the station. |

Ernie is right, Jonathan Ross is a Jim Moir signing, as is another 'must-to-avoid' for me, Steve Wright, though I understand our Lesley was still in a high position at the time. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

What bothers me is the fact that his sidekick Andy flies in from Malaga every week to be...... Ross's sidekick. So much for "Carbon Footprints"! Andy obviously doesn't give a toss..... Okay, so he flies the desk as well, but anybody can do that. |

Apparently I read the BBC will honour his £18 Million contract, but after that he will live on what they can afford.
I think Wossy does touch the border line every week and people take him too serious. |

Nonsense! He'll consider bids for higher sums from other broadcasters. The reason why the beeb settled on his current contract is that the competition from other bidders was high. Don't forget that his commitment to the beeb extends far beyond his weekly radio show. |

Oh really so you dont think Commercial Radio broadcasters in Radio or TV do other things but still earn far less than Ross is on? |

So you have to ask yourself why they don't earn as much. Something to do with supply and demand? Market forces?
Be mindful of one thing: when Ross's star ceases to shine (as inevitably it will one day), he'll cost a broadcaster a lot less. |

Shame on his pocket. I'm sure he could still do the same job - with the same audience earning a million a year? |

Mark, you're missing a simple point. If two or more organisations are bidding against each other for his services, is he wrong to take the money and run? No. Not in my book.
He could be on his uppers next year, so in the entertainment business you have to grab it while it's there.
Like I said before, something is only worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it. It's no different to you putting something up for auction on ebay, after all. |

WAS there ever a serious bid for Ross though? I doubt it very much. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I believe that there was competition from the newly-established ITV Plc and also from Channel 5 under its then new German owners. |

It could well be, but broadcasting is a close-knit community and everybody at the top knows what everybody else is thinking and doing. Serious offers would be known about on the grapevine, as would any bluffing. I don't think you can bluff that amount of dosh! |

Yes but ITV dont have the shows to put him on. Their top slots are already occupied. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

But the recently formed group has a new leader - someone who's not afraid of shakeouts and restructuring. And with ITV's flagging fortunes in the last few years it certainbly needs someone like him. |

Apparently reported Channel 4 were interested, but they were interested in a lot of names at the time. |

There aren't that many fish (who can undertake the breadth of assignements that Ross undertakes) in the pond - not here in the UK anyhow. That's why there's a lot of competition for a few big names. It's very much Big Fish, Small Pond here. |

It does make me laugh because some are saying if he earned £1 Millions he wouldn't get the listeners or viewers. He sounds to me they are trying to buy the public as well? |

What JR can get away with on a late night chat show and what the Radio 2 audience want at 10am on as Saturday morning, in my opinion, are two different things. Perhaps a friend should tell him? |

That's the job of his Producer - and the Channel Controller! Evidently, there's been a bit of a communication breakdown! |

I gave up on his R2 show when he described Shawn Colvin's 'Sunny Came Home' as sounding like the Corrs.
I wish that the 'Rural Juror' movie as mentioned in 30 Rock had happened for real so I could hear Ross reviewing it!
He's the reason I fast-forward most of the Comedy Awards when it's on - I just want to see the nominations. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

Interesting comments in today's Independent, in a feature on Mark Radcliffe's new slot success. He seems to support Ross's high earnings, and puts forward quite a strong argument. Still disagree with him!
The Independent feature sings the praises of the 8-10pm show, quite a contrast to the guardian blog the other week on the supposed pointlessness of Rad-Mac's show. Funny for those 2 papers not to agree!?!... |
