You're right, Lord Evan, LD seems to be in thrall to all things BB! It can only be a matter of time before Jade Goody takes over from Jeremy Vine _________________ MiS |

Second day running I have heard her mention " In the Sun today" now why doesn't she not mention the paper instead just talk about the subject in question? |

Bit drastic especially when, if you cut yours ears off, you CAN still hear. Try chopsticks pushed 4" into the ear canal |

Review in MediaGuardian, in which Elisabeth Mahoney once again praises Radio 2 despite clearly not being a regular listener. I am convinced Lesley Douglas creates schedules for media reviewers and commentators ahead of long-time listeners.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Elisabeth Mahoney
Tuesday August 21, 2007
The Guardian
She was, suggested Terry Wogan, going to be "a bright interval". And Davina McCall (Radio 2), sitting in for Ken Bruce, was just that - a sunny, cheerful presence, well-suited to the mid-morning slot. She had, she explained, been given two "directives": not to shout and not to call people "mate". She managed the latter, but struggled a bit ("Yippee! Yay!") with the volume control in moments of great excitement.
There were several small technical glitches - trailers during songs; an awkward moment with linking to the travel news; talking over songs - reminding us that radio is harder than it sounds. And if McCall has one fault, it's simply too much gushing ("love it!") and good cheer ("it puts me in such a good mood!"). But she is impressive when it comes to interacting with listeners, doing so in admirably natural fashion, and she made a fine job of the tricky prospect that is a clutch of lovey-dovey dedications. McCall also quickly got the hang of the quirky Radio 2 audience. "Thanks to Floppy Chopper on the A14," she chirruped between chirpy songs |

It's not Davina who's driving the desk so the foul ups are down too her producer. She can be slight over powering which comes across different on radio than TV. |

It ignores me when she says 'please email me like she's begging the listeners. Ken was mentioned, must be reading the message boards regarding the bad remarks The mods are keeping them on the music section, so must be thinking it's our BBC and we allowed to say how we feel? Slight change of direction for them, but I doubt the direction will stop LD giving Davina another go again? Also reading the emails out saying that I know you are only joking makes out the listeners are weak. It's like you are saying something rude to someone and saying I'm only joking'
I think the fluff up at the beginning of the week with the trailers being heard over the music was a set up to make people think she's driving the desk?
Ps Lynn was telling her off saying " when you read out things from emails or texts you foul up' ooooooooooo |

First time listen today for me as I was on the road instead of the office. Davina is ok, a little "mumsy" maybe but she is a mum so that's ok by me ... |

After 72 posts, the thought police woke up, did they delay in closing off the board because secretly they agreed with the posters?
We got the same level of anti - evans posters but we're still stuck with him!
I think that Davina's (+Brand's + Kermit's) ha ssomething on Dame Lesley. _________________ Geddon

I'm not anti everything, but I'm still anti Evans and always will be. I can't stand his voice so unless that changes (and pigs might fly before that!) my opinion of him won't.

Can I just say I've quite enjoyed Davinas show this week.
She hasn't shouted like I and a lot of others thought she might.
Also I like the fact that she has had some phone calls to the show as I think it's nice to have some interaction with the listeners.
Davina also gives a bit of her own life to the show which I feel lets you warm to a person.
While I don't mind Ken, I don't feel I really know anything about him and therefore don't really feel any warmth towards him.
The main plus point of Davinas show though is there has been a lot more variety in the music played which in my eyes is always the main criteria in a good show. |

I agree with Helen. - so I can't be anti-everything. I'm also in favour of:
Terry
Ken
Bill Bailey's new show on tribute bands
FNIMN
Richrd Allinson

Helen, agree with you! I most certainly am not an anti-everything on R2: I like Sarah, Teal, Ken, Parky, and many of the "specialist" and one-offs.
I thought it was hilariously typical of Ernie to say that Evans is blessed by the quality of his objectors!! _________________ MiS |

I'd definitely agree with those sentiments, MIS. Thankfully I've only heard ten minutes of the fragrant Davina this week.
Like others here, I'm not totally anti-R2 either - just don't like the current crop of so-called "celebrity" presenters the station seems to be attracting these days. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Well we are still waiting for the protest march on Portland Place
Seriously though, Evans listenership is almost exactly the same as Walkers'. If you look at the last 8 quarters worth of listenership figures for drivetime you will find that all bar a very few made the transition to Chris' show.

Did you know that most of the recents signings, Brand, McCall, etc, have the same agent.

Davina McCall's stint as a stand-in host on BBC Radio 2 has attracted more than 150 complaints from listeners.
The presenter filled in on Ken Bruce's weekday morning show last week.
But the BBC said 156 people complained, while others posted comments about her "inane chatter" and "cringe-worthy" style on the BBC messageboards.
The BBC said it "fully recognised the strength of feeling" but that McCall had extensive broadcasting experience and was a suitable stand-in. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Just been reading Terry Wogans biography where it qoutes him as saying ' ...the best you can hope for is 60% in your favour, and 40% against you', so in that context 156 isn't many !! |

Indeed. 156 is a bit half hearted by Radio 2 standards. Mind you I didnt think her show was great either. Just couldnt be bothered to complain about it either. Life's too short & there are too many other options available. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
