Yes, that sound you can hear on your radio right now is the bottom of the barrel being scraped!
I thought Lesley had learnt her lesson there?! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Yes, I thought 'WTF?' before she explained that Stuart Maconie was still on holiday. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

Kate Thornton's handover to Dermot O'Leary should be interesting. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Has Kate Thornton got something to blackmail Lesley Douglas with? It sounds as though it's the only plausible explanation as to why she was given this particular gig.
Absolutely awful - and that was with only ten minutes listening. Time for "Listen Again", methinks - what can I listen to now? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

They are probably reluctant to do this now after the furore over recorded shows that pretend to be live. Although I dont think people would care if he told us at the start that it was recorded and dont bother to call or text today. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

mentioning texting I thought it was interesting that on last nights show Chris Evans mentioned that they had enough texts for the whole show after only a short period but you could still text if you wanted because they pick them out ...and also they was some pre-selecting of the listeners choices, he only wanted cheesy.....is this the new BBC explaining to the listener ? |

Don't radio 1 & 2 get roughly 200 texts per minute at peak hours. Radio 1's website has a text counter on it. If they read them all out they would never play any music. And quite a few are probably from people who are just a bit disturbed _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I would have thought everyone would know that they pick out the ones they want out of all those sent in. It's not exactly rocket science or is it?
Do they think the listener loses every scrap of common sense they ever had when they switch on the radio? Sounds a bit like it to me and they talk about the nanny state!

In defence of Kate i have to say it was average and obviously she was not driving the desk.
It sounded a little staged but she is not a regular presenter.
Nothing bad to report but sadly not the kind of show that got me dashing for the Listen Again as soon as i got in tonight. _________________ The Voice of reason in a MAD MAD world |

So some (maybe most) listeners are wasting their time and money making calls, because their requests won't be played anyway.
Is that similar to entering a competiton you can't win ? |

I'd say so Nod, but then it's supposed to be taking part not winning that is the important thing.

Since radio stations got computerised playlists this has been a dirty little secret. Requests from listeners are ignored as the radio bosses dont think listeners choices suit their music policy.
Capital Gold recently dropped their juke box show which did play obscure stuff from the 60's & 70's at listeners request. I think one key reason why they dropped it was because of the number of requests for slow ballad songs of the Peters & Lee type that if played back to back for an evening can get quite depressing quite quickly. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I read with interest in the Sunday Mirror that both Kate and Dermot were at the wedding of TV presenter Holly Willoughby yesterday. |

Both were recorded but Kate wasnt taking any chances. She said good bye at 4.25 and played Take That Back for Good (any significance to that tune I wonder!)
As another poster mentioned both Dermot & Kate were at a wedding on Saturday. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Interesting. They probably get on fine, but I suspect dear Kate still sees the X Factor axeing as a major remark on her 'star quality'.
So, why therefore is LD still interested in her?! She won't touch DB, I'm guessing, coz he's not 'up there' at the moment, but at least he has a glimmer of radio talent. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

No doubt! Matthew Wright, Lulu, Elaine Paige, Pete Mitchell... the list of bumbling, fumbling, bland radio ineptitudes continues to fill la Douglas's 'Desirable' wipe-board.

John Noel Management represents:
Russell Brand
Dermot O'Leary
Matthew Wright
Nemone
Davina McCall
All of whom have presented (or are about to present) programmes on Radio 2 - you can do the maths for yourself.
Maybe Danny Baker should give him a call? _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

What is the point of getting a stand-in to pre-record their programme? Surely the proper presenter could do that? It's just bizarre. |

Probably because most people (unlike us!) won't recognise the fact that it has been, and they may think that R2 is trying to attract new faces*.
