Roger Scott was first on Capital Radio, later Radio 1.
If he was alive today, I'm sure he'd be on Radio 2. I can't imagine him on todays radio 1!
He played a great selection of music- everything from rock to country to pop and soul. One of the radio greats! |

Totally agree-up there with the likes of Alan Freeman, John Peel, Richard Allinson in respect of knowledgeof music-all types as well. |

Yep! Amazing that he used to be on Radio One! It was a more open minded radio station in those days.
I remember when I was doing my A levels, I used to pop into a sandwich bar at lunchtimes, & I believe he was on Capital Radio then. I think he was the first guy on British radio to play Dolly Parton's Bargain Store.
He identified with the song "Rex Bob Lowenstein"- about another maverick dj not confined in his music choices! |

I remember hearing the 'Three O'clock thrill' on Capital Radio coming over the tannoy system at my place of work in Bracknell in the late 1970s-early 1980s. I remember much less of his R1 'stereo sequence' career circa early 1990s, though I did make a recording of a R1 anniversary hour that was embedded within the 'Stereo sequence' show and which still survives. |

Roger Scott is one of the greatest broadcasters to ever grace our airwaves. He's up there in the same league as John Peel, Alan Freeman and John Dunn. Truly irreplaceable. |

Capital Gold's current drivetime presenter, Paul Coyte, rather obviously copies Roger Scott's style, but he is hardly the first to do so. I would like to think that, had he lived, Roger Scott would have been radio 2's drivetime presenter for a decade or more. |

I listened to an old tape today of Roger Scott interviewing Dion (DiMucci) who was playing live and he did about six songs with his band. Dion mentioned an Elvis Tribute album by himself, Springsteen and others. I wonder if this was ever released? |
