If anyone of you were a long time presenter on Radio 2 and people came in and said you had to keep playing the same records over and over again, would you protest or even leave.
I've often wondered this and I have to say even though I'm not normally rebellious I would definitely make a stand and leave if necessary.
Because I love a wide variety of music I just couldn't bear to keep playing the same 5 or 6 records every day.
I know it's a good job with good money but I honestly still think I would leave. |

Michael Parkinson does that anyway doesn't he? At least it feels like it some Sundays. |

I'd leave myself. After three years behind the counter at a certain so-called charitable concern I felt like saying something offensive when local stations had the same six records on! _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

I think the money would win but I agree with the thought.
I can understand Wrighty playing any old thing day after day but not the likes of Bruce or Walker, it must be torture sometimes. I'll bet they turn the volume down. |

I certainly wouldn't be happy playing the same tracks every day. If I were a DJ, I'd want to be of the Bob Harris, Steve Lamacq, John Peel type and, at least, include some of the stuff I like. I'd soon get sick of playing Mika etc. every day. Another who doesn't like 'heavy rotation' is Mark Radcliffe. I remember him saying as much once. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Likewise, I'd suffer having a nighttime/overnight slot just so I had a smidgin of input into what was supposed to be 'my' programme. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Listening to the excellent Mark Lamarr on Wossy's show this Saturday, I enjoyed the more obscure stuff he plays including at least one "never before played" track by some unknowns.
It's a real pity we're subjected to this boring dross playlist milarky... |

They'll be needed between 2:00-7:00pm Mondays-Fridays, though, even better to just switch over, or even off! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Generally, when one's presenting on the wireless you don't listen to the music anyway - you're usually thinking of your next link (or looking for funny things to talk about in The Sun, as it's sometimes known!)
It's not about what the presenters want to play, it's about what the listeners want to hear, or at least what the producers think the listeners want to hear. If you're on a specialist or off-peak show I suspect you may have a little more leeway, but the general consensus with daytime radio seems to be playing it safe and not frightening the horses. _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

Sunday Love Songs playing Love songs and less of the banter pretending I'm in the studio waiting for the Sausage Sarnie to arrive, with some of the listeners knowing full well the show was recorded on Thursday or Friday Morning. Also saying on Monday he's been away to New York for the weekend |
