I don't know if anyone else listened to this topic on the Jeremy Vine today, if you did, what do you feel about deporting this young lady to a country that it would appear has sentenced her to a horrific death, because she has converted her religious faith, from Islam. Having lived and worked, for 7 years, in an Islamic State, in the Middle East, I believe that if the information presented on today's show is accurate, and I have no reason to believe other wise, I believe she is in mortal danger if deported to Iran. I am appalled at this action and if the deportation went ahead as planned tonight, it makes me feel ashamed to be British and my heart goes out to this young lady.

Have to say I was utterly disgusted by the majority of comments about this on Jeremy's show yesterday. What a reactionary, ignorant, intolerant bunch of whingers his listeners are. The general consensus seemed to be "send her back 'cos she's forgeign" and who cares about the consequences.
Added to the comments about organ donation and disabled parking ("it's their fault for being ill") I was reminded why I don't listen to the show anymore. Axe it now, and put everyone out of their misery. |

Hi Helen, nor have I and I emailed JV asking for an update on today's show, however, missed most of the show today so I am none the wiser and still feel so completely helpless as I know the way the of the culture in the Middle East. To them women are just chattel to be owned and have little or no say in their lives, I lived and worked there, took the handsome reward and accepted it was their country and their culture, so lived by their laws, pity they can't do the same when they come to live and work here.

Hi BB
I did as well although it was at the bottom of something else so it may have been missed. I guess they could have been preoccupied with other things today.
It may be that there is no further information as yet. I'll email again maybe tomorrow.

BB,
I would agree 100% with everything that you have said about this. Its a poor decision to send people in genuine fear of persecution back home when there are so many people who dont play by the rules who are allowed to stay. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Hi H & ernie,
I will email JV again as I really do feel that we have as a Nation let this young lady down so badly and we should not let it just be swept under the carpet. Maybe I will have to write to my MP to try and raise the profile of what I believe to be a travesty of justice that must reflect on our national belief in a persons right to life with dignity.

I believe she had a reprieve just three hours before she was due to board the plane to Iran - more than that I can't remember, I'm afraid, but it seems she's safe for the moment. _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

Hi mcl, thanks for that, I will email JV, yet again, and ask him to give us an update. Of course he could have done and I missed it as I never listen to all of his show as it's only possible while driving between customers.

I didn't hear one BB, but there could be no more news as Ann Widdecombe said on air it was being looked into. We all know how long even the simplest of things take.

A well respected school Governor and his family here in Liverpool were deported to Pakistan, despite local protests and MPs being involved. Since then they have been beaten up and harrassed for opposing the military rulers there. One of the admitted pot smoking New Labour ministers has done a Pontius Pilate over the situation. Marvellous isn't it? |
