Did anyone else watch the conclusion of the Apprentice last night?
We were absolutely amazed that Simon won. He didn't by any means disgrace himself but Christina struck us as better at every level.
But perhaps Simon fitted in better with what Sir Alan actually needed.
What do others think?

I cant understand why anybody would want to work for Sir Alan Sugar. This show has done more harm to business than good. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Based upon his performance in some of the earlier tasks, you wouldn't have thought he would have come close, and if Katie hadn't opted out last week, he might not have made it to the final, as Sir Alan would surely not have gone against the unanimous approval of Kristina by his three headhunters.
However, despite his uncanny resemblance to Stan Laurel at times and during that interview process, I did have a sneaking feeling that he would win.
Kristina was the safer choice, and the better manager, but, as with Ruth Badger last year, her final piece in the boardroom, concentrating on her reliability and ability to work alone without supervision, was weak. Simon's presentation was the better of the two, he was the more creative and has more potential, though he will undoubtedly come a cropper once or twice along the way - he will need a good supporting team, and Sir Alan's guidance. An ideal Apprentice, in fact.
Apparently the series was shot and finished last year (Kew Gardens was looking very autumnal) and the two of them have been working for him since. Two endings were shot, and he finally made his mind up this week. Kristina was obviously disappointed, but I'm sure she won't have much trouble in finding suitable employment, and probably more lucrative, at that. _________________ Ron |

Apprentice winner Simon Ambrose was a guest today on ITV 1's This Morning.
When quizzed about the final by hosts Fern Britton and Philip Schofield Simon admitted that two versions of the Final 'Board Room' scene were filmed and added that their was "some acting involved"!
He also said that the two finalists were told the 'real results' away from the cameras!! _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I can't see how. After all, how often does anybody come across the "Amstrad" brand on a day-to-day basis? I wouldn't mind betting that if you took a TV crew out onto a high street and did some vox-pops on the subject of who Sugar is, very few people would have a clue. Except for being "that bloke on The Apprentice". |

I didnt say that he was promoting his own businesses on the show. I just recall how untypical he is of a modern business leader. If you remember his time as Spurs chairman he was famous for being rude, obnoxious and unable to coverse without use f*** in every sentence. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

My reference was to your sentence "This show has done more harm to business than good" and I can't see how that can be. |

I know someone who once worked quite closely with Sugar, he's not a very nice chap by all accounts. |

Because it portays a message of business as being a place where bullying, meglomania and short termism are paramount. Anybody who tried to emulate what they see in the Apprentice in business would go broke pretty soon. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

In some respects, hasn't "The Apprentice" become dumbed down into the same format as other so - called reality shows.
Let's face it, just what is the attraction of earning a £100,000 salary, at a time in business when that is just peanuts, considering how a lot of other corporate executives earn far higher.
By all accounts, Sir Alan is not the easiest boss in the world to work for, and the business "projects" devised for all, just showed that most didn't have a ruddy clue.
These successful people were supposedly the best of 10,000 applicants! Gawd help us! If these were the best, what were the unsuccessful ones like?
The simple fact is they were the ones more likely suitable for a TV show; they were good, but disposable television "fodder" with egos, diverse backgrounds, tantrums and so on, that ensured potential repeated winning ratings!
The fact that these numpties couldn't hack it to save their skins wasn't the major point. They were seeking their chance of fame, to be on telly.
Whilst people have different views on Katie, she showed her true colours, that she was in it for the fame, and that was just what the others were in it for too! |

Don't worry, Iain, all the failure will get their own business reality TV show on Sky, a la Badger and Saeed. _________________ Geddon
