I can't remember who posted a message saying that Steve Wright said "Umbrella" was not a song you'd want to hear every day.
It must have been posted about 2 weeks ago and he's played it every day since then and must have been playing it every day for 2 weeks prior to that.
The only umbrella I'd like to see is a nice Bulgarian one jabbed sharply into a certain DJ's leg. |

Yes, it was me who posted that. Wrighty said it about 3 weeks ago and is indeed still playing it every sodding day.
But we must be wrong about it- it's Number 1 in the charts! |

Yes, even I was cursing Steve this afternoon for playing this complete garbage!
This is one of the few songs which would make me turn the radio off (another being that Nine Million Bicycles in Bejing pap!!)
Mind you the rest of the show was typically great... |

I can't believe that's number one - it's dire!
There again, when did any of us last buy a single??

I actually think if they got rid of the "Umbrella ella ella" bit it would be an OK song. And the video ain't bad but you don't get that pleasure from Steve Wright. |

I actually switched SW off this afternoon in despair at his constant stream of repetetive, weak "jokes" and crap playlist... Opening with "Sultans Of Swing"- Wow, ground-breaking Wrighty!
And if he slags off the music any more I may well not be responsible for my actions- Some of us like "Wind Of Change" you mental midget! _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

Yes, it's his playlist - no-one else on Radio 2 is playing it. So why is he allowed to play it every day? Why is each SW playlist just basically the same songs in a different order? Why do the bosses let him be so lazy? Chris Evans had a pop again tonight - something's got to give soon. |

I've got to agree with Ian that Steve has become incredibly lazy.
It's not that I hate him as I used to be a big fan, but I do think he needs a kick up the backside.
I don't mind him bringing a bit of his own taste into his choice of records, but under no circumstances should you be allowed to play virtually the same set of records every day for weeks on end.
After all is supposed to be Radio 2 and not some third rate commercial station. I could go on Radio every day and play just the records I like day in day out and I'm pretty sure it would annoy the hell out of ninety nine percent of the public.
I know I've said it before but what makes it worse is the first half hour of his show he plays a variety of records but after that the same set of records kicks in and I really don' know why that is. |

June 21st now,
Exactly the same set of records from 2 till 5 as six weeks ago.
Is this really happening or am I in some sort of groundhog day situation? |

It only takes a few guesses to know what he's played on a given day!
And on the subject of Steve Wright has anyone noticed that Tim Smith is mysteriously absent during the entire show except the quiz, and Wright's having to make silly excuses explaining it? Like Tim's just hanging around, and only popping in occassionally |

Most R2 listeners can't remember six days ago, never mind six weeks, but I've now got to the stage of turning SW off earlier than usual. _________________ Geddon

Was it just me or was SW truly, truly awful this afternoon? If he'd mentioned Glastonbury once more I was going to put a hammer through my radio- switched him off just after the oldies and had glorious silence.
It was just such a weak, poor effort of a show today- even worse than the usual bland standard we get churned out. _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

I thought he had lost his voice earlier in the week, we just heard a couple of croaks. Why did he come in ?.
I am never sure if Tim & Janey are really in the studio or not, they only appear after 14:30 (after SW has filled for 30mins with repeating the news etc) and then they don't do much apart from factoids which could be recorded. |

You clearly don't like Steve very much PJ so why listen if you don't enjoy? There are other stations, CD's, MP3 players, etc you can listen to instead.
Just curious. |

It was obvious that Tim was too ill to actually work this week, but the Big Quiz had been pre-recorded so Steve had to keep making excuses for why he wasn't in the talkie bits. He wasn't even convincing: "Janey's here, Sally's here... ERRRR, Tim's here..." |

Hi Toggy,
I'm driving all day- don't like to be fiddling about re-tuning, or trying to load CD's between 2 and 5. It would be dangerous.
Is it too much to ask the BBC that we have someone competent and professional on in the afternoon? And live would be nice. _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

Don't expect SW to drop this song anytime soon - I caught some of the show as a captive audience the other day and he said "I love that" after playing it again.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Yes, I agree PJ,
How old is Steve Wright actually? younger people aren't scared to like older music, or different music, you only have to listen to tracks of my years to hear that. |
